Chapter 4

Adonis Vasilios. I strode out of the airport briskly making a beeline for the man with a placard of my name. I stood in front of him. "Adonis?", He asked, squinting his eyes to look at me. I confirmed with a nod of my head before stepping into the car. Father made preparations for me to come back to Greece. Otherwise I'd have had my car and driver here. "I don't know what was so important he couldn't tell me on the phone, I had to come all the way to Greece", I thought with a groan. Different thoughts were running rampant In my head. Different thoughts, different scenarios ran through my mind. I couldn't sit still. I needed to be prepared at all times. Leon Vasilios was cunning and could spring up a surprise at me anytime. I made up different scenarios, different plans and different ways out all the way until we got home. I was a bit of an overthinker. My thoughts halted and fled my mind once we got to the gate of the house. The Vasilios house. My childhood home. As we drove in, different childhood memories came to mind making me reminisce. The driver dropped me off at the door of the house before turning back down the driveway to park at the garage. As I stepped out, I saw my Mama and Papa at the door. Papa had tears in his eyes while Mama looked like she was going to come running to me if I didn't walk fast enough. I took fast strides towards them as though on autopilot. As though I wasn't in control of my body. Until, I got to where they stood. Mama flung herself into my arms. You know that feeling, where you feel like you're in the right place. Your heart is settled. That's how I felt. My heart was full. I was home. Once she let me go, albeit unwilling, I stepped forward to give papa a handshake but he also wrapped me into a tight hug and I felt my heart clench. "I'm proud of you", He said looking into my eyes and I felt a part of me light up. The part of me that had always seeked my Papa's approval and blessings. "Let's move this party to the table. I've prepared all your favourite meals, Adonis", Mama said, extracting me from Papa's grip with a pout making us chuckle. The table was filled to the brim with all of my favourite foods yet I found myself distracted and unsettled. The reason for my visit, still on my mind. I took sips and spoonfuls of different drinks and different foods. I had to otherwise Mama would scold me and feed me herself. My heart was with them. But my mind wasn't. After the meal, we had a bit of a light chat. Papa stood up and motioned to me gruffly saying, "come son" before walking towards his office. I stood up taking in brisk steps. Just as I placed my hand on the door knob, "Listen to him and try to understand where he's coming from", Mama said, placing her hand on my shoulder. I nodded at her with a smile and she squeezed my shoulder in response. I opened the door and walked in before closing it quietly. I took fast strides towards Papa who motioned me to sit in a chair. I sat In the chair opposite him. I looked around, his office hadn't really changed. Memories of my childhood escapades in his office rushed in. I felt nostalgia creep In. Papa interrupted my reverie with a cough. I looked up at him and saw his hand outstretched. He stretched forth a binder to me and I stretched out my hand to collect it. I hurriedly opened it and what I saw sent me reeling back in shock. Of all things, I had expected, I didn't expect to see what was staring back at me. Papa must have noticed my shock because he turned away from me. The shock started to wear off, rage took place in its stead. Pure undiluted rage. I felt It fill me up, making me see red for a minute. I clenched my fists tightly. "No", I said with no hesitation. "Marry her or forgo your inheritance ", He said with the strict voice he used on me whenever I refused to do his bidding. Which further helped to irk me. I turned around with a nod of my head. I was willing to forgo the inheritance, after all I already had my empire. I'd grow it into something worthy of the Vasilios. Just as I took another step forward. His voice stopped me from taking another. "I'll disown you if you take another step", He said, stopping me in my tracks. I slowly turned around to look at him, disbelief etched on my face. "If you refuse this marriage, there will be no Vasilios empire for you to take over", He said gruffly. "What do you mean?" I was confused. "I mean to say according to the contract, the Vasilios dynasty will go to your would-be bride if you fail to accept this marriage and the same would happen if she refuses this marriage", He said. "I'll do it", I said, slipping on my usual blank mask. As I did that, I saw papa's gaze turn sad. "Thank you son", He said before pulling me in for a hug. "How many times have I wished to be able to get hugs from my papa while younger?", I thought as I hugged him tighter, satiating my younger self who got deprived of fatherly love. We gently let go and I gave him one last glance before walking out the door. From the contract, I knew my wedding was the day after tomorrow. I rushed into my room, I had one mission. Just one. I didn't bother to look around my room. The room I've had since I was born, my sanctuary. I changed into a shirt and jeans before rushing downstairs and hopping into my Ferrari. The loud roar of the car had me grinning like a maniac. I was meeting my friend at the club. For tonight, I just want to let loose, shirk my responsibilities and be the opposite of my responsible self. I drove off Into the night. I checked my phone for the location of the club. It was Club Enigma. I revved my engine driving wildly. It has been so long since I've felt free, unrestricted. I got to the club in record timing albeit due to my driving skills that rivalled those of a car racer. I drove into the club, my car eliciting a lot of looks my way. With a smirk plastered on my face, I walked into the club. The bouncer didn't dare to stop me. I looked around for my friend, Nikolaus. "He's definitely around here somewhere with a girl. He'll find me later", I thought before heading to the bar. The view at the bar leaves me reeling. I stagger on my feet although I'm not drunk. I continue forward, walking forward to order a glass of vodka. The air was charged with s****l chemistry and I know she felt it too. she didn't turn around to look at me but I know she felt my presence. Once I voiced out my order, her head turned around so fast, I was sure she almost got whiplash. She turned around to look at me. Her red hair flowed wildly without a care in the dim bar. The moment she turned to look at me, our gazes clashed. Gray meets Green…
