“Wanna have a kiss?”
(smooch)
She landed a wet one on my left cheek when we are hiding under the table. I have the power of memories to miss this event in entirety, but it is claimed as a waste for the task from the unknown deity in my heart. To estimate which person as a murderer is for me to re-do everything off the record. She is Devina, an acquaintance of second grade and an accidental partner of crime in elementary school. Who knows if she is the actual killer of my past if I took her lightly?
For the beginning of our encounter, Devina asked for someone to be the receiver of her affectionate peck in rather frontal manner. When we have PE class in the middle of our day, she commenced her intention towards me and my friend as we proceeded to work on our front roll upon the mattress.
---
“So you have to do this in a pattern, Amanda. Put your heads down..... no, no, do it this way....let loose of your hand... No, set your legs on the back, and lean it down for strength..”
Mr. Susilo has a most of the time consumed for teaching many girls that afraid of learning by practice of such a simple move. It is lesser in count for us boys who actually being terrified of trying, with only even a particle of us all who failed to do the lesson. For me, Henry, and Kevin, we have done our part correctly as the first men of the hood.
Definitely, we are the leading brute of the class, so the period for nonsense chit-chat it is this time.
“Have you watched the ‘ring of madness’ yesterday, Yuda?” Asked Kevin to the three of us as a starter of conversation.
“No, I’m late to go home yesterday.”
“Really, Yuda? That’s the part when King Dodora beam a blue light to the tentacle monster. So Cool!” Henry’s eyes bleeping, blinking as he speaks of a kids’ evening show that has been popular lately among the boys,”You know, the monster is big, and King Dodora only do it one time to kill it.”
Yeah, ,yeah, I haven’t got an actual interest to see that lame show. All of the monsters are props and wreckable miniatures down their feet for the stage. The hero, King Dodora, is played by real person in close-up camera. It makes the man gained an upperhand of being a gigantic creature ahead of the audience while the lenses panned up to his figure for every action of the video.
“Come here, Devina. Time for you to try!” Mr. Susilo called Devina to the front. She is, from my perspective, so sluggish in form and a jar of physique in weight. She is not as round as Sheila Jayanto, however, my classmate whose figure would deforming the mattress in each stomp she’s put into. Her twin-tails of a chin, an eagle-like chubby nose and two extremely wide nostrils, has brought her into a new sort of talent to scare away fifth graders while we’re playing football in the break-time of school hours.
It was indeed helped us a bunch, so we’re letting her to join us no matter how bad she was at playing. The girls has avoided the witch everytime, you see, so we’re the only friend she has left.
As Devina passed the trial in excellent repetition, none of the girls’ group lay their attention to her, even us the boys that enjoying our free time to chat. She is a loner, a social outcast, so nobody peered with what she has been doing. On the other way around, Her friend mostly is in another class, so that’s apparently her reason on refusing to blend in at all.
See, that’s why I am more into explaining Sheila Jayanto than Devina in essence. She has not a single clue of her exploits in our class somehow.
“Now Sheila Jayanto, come forward!!”
To speak of the devil, our beautiful guardian steps up and fitting her pants during the call-out. Meanwhile, the closer she is to the edge of the mattress, the boys’ claps are getting much in intensity and filled in the atmosphere of the school’s indoor gym. We’re truly honest in this, not even thinking on being mean over our queen. She is our shadow leader, you know?
“Come on, Shei!! You can do it!!”
“The mattress is easy for you!!”
With our hands applauding her, the mouth has its own use to the practice. The boys’ squad was cheering her up to lift the mood and her bravery to speed the brawl. As Mr. Susilo has shown before, we have to imitate his gesture in exact turn from the instruction given prior to the practice. We have to put both hands ahead, palms extended, and bowing our head down to form half a circle as our body creeping upon the matress for the starters. Second that matters the most is our legs. The two feet has to be the launcher of our body for a perfect execution of a front roll.
Should be hard for her posture, so the liveliness of us boys might be a miracle to begin with.
“Now, put your two legs on the corner.....nice. Don’t be afraid, Sheila.” Said Mr. Susilo, muttering towards her clumsiness on the mattress,”And now, put your head down and try not to look up when rolling, okay?”
“Wait-wait, don’t do t-“
(Bam!)
Sheila jumps as soon as a tickling sensation fits her feet from Mr. Susilo’s approach to lay her legs into the desired position he was meant to be. She might be gotten panicked of a stranger’s palms on her calf, for her to crush the stacks of vaulting box afterwards by the raw strength of headbutt.
For the outcome, She fell unconscious by the tackle. The boys are concerned and rushing in, but have no idea to help her out. I do learn methods for CPR and first-aid treatment for injury like this, but it would be awkward for second grader to do so.
‘yes, it is better to hold back for now, Yuda.’
The inner voice of unknown deity has whispered me once more, repeating my decision entirely. I don’t really keen to answer it, though.
‘yes, you have not. It would be uncomfortable for you to speak aloud right here.’
Whatever floats your boat, old man.
Returning to the real world dilemma, Our gym teacher is being busy on examining Sheila’s condition. Many of our female classmates, as Sheila Jayanto is unpopular figure among them, choose to ignore the ruckus and playing with their exclusive pack.
“Hey, are you okay, Sheila?” Henry Djoyo scratches his head as he asked of her condition. No follow-up feedback from her, of course.
“Hey...”
“Stop it, Henry. She’s dead.” I spoke to him as I halted his left hand’s advance to her seemingly-lifeless figure. I have to try on being dumb sometimes here for the act.
“Really? She’s dead? Who’s gonna be with us to fight the fifth graders?” Kevin joins our nonsensical chattering. His v-shaped eyebrows show that he is serious on speaking of the matter.
Mr. Susilo should be all-ears to our opinion, that he finally breaks his silence and turning his head upon us,”She is not going anywhere today, boys. She is just blacked out.” Answered him while leaning down Sheila’s body in proper manner.
“What is black out, Mr. Susilo?” Asked Dani Juwono, being curious on the new word. He consistently bringing this form of question whenever somebody throws a sentence out of whim.
Probably not intending to have a difficult query, Mr. Susilo paused a bit by an unexpected question from his students,“Ermm....anyway, take care of her first, okay? I’ll be back.” Said him as he barged out from the school gym. Might be looking for someone to help him lifting our friend here, perhaps?
Oh yeah, there’s a school doctor two levels down from here. He must be going there for assistance since his sweat of concern is rising up in heat.
For us, the unsupervised group of youngster, being a second grader would describe what we’re attempting to do when Sheila is in our hands. We prefer to poke her nose numerous times to check if she’s really dead down there. Her two holes, the nose for details, are still laying down a snore as if she’s in a deep sleep. Her flat chest, even though it looks slightly buffed up from many fat she’s stored underneath, has presenting a breath and apparently moving in sequence.
In other words, she is alive for real.
“What is it now?”
“What is what, Dani?” I exchanged Dani’s uneventful topic by giving him something to think over.
“The corpse.” He pointed at Sheila’s body, ”Do we have to throw it out?”
Kevin immediately negates the dreadful question from our athletic friend, “No way, Dani. She is our friend.” He said while guarding Sheila’s body from Dani’s reach.
Dani Juwono is a full nerd for crime movie. He also loves to learn words, and that’s the reason he could keep up against me in english and winning many spelling bee competitions that has yet to come . However, in the future, he has pursued a different path and becoming a chef, quite in opposite to his interest I suppose.
As for me and Henry, rather than working out over Dani’s unethical prediction, we choose to leave from the commotion and continue talking about a game ahead of the unoccupied corridor on the western areas beside the indoor gym. We could see a bunch of fifth-graders on the school field, blasting a plastic ball to their friends for fun in the game. Over the northern side, junior high schoolers have a rehearsal for flag ceremony on Monday and doesn’t get annoyed by the noise nearby.
But they would be infuriated if the ball hits one of them, surely.
Speaking of the console games that Henry asked me to play, I’ve use it plenty times as I was invited to his house two days before. Highway Fighter, the legendary franchise that received many awards in fighting games’ genre. I am certainly winning every single game against Henry, for him to ask me again to stop by today means a challenge to my talent.
“I will win the game for real, Yuda. Come to my house, please!” Henry requested, gazing upon me and my smug for bringing hell to his game.
“You sure? I’m gonna beat you up again, you know?”
He assured me by handing me a thumbs up,”I have read guides from Game-Go mags! I will be the winner this time.” He grinned in awe, hoping I would agree for him to win a game against me after reading those abstract articles of a a game.
“....”
Meanwhile, someone is lurking in the shadow of the corridor’s hand rail. I have acknowledged her trail much earlier, that Devina. She is too fat for being a spy and overly loud in walking for a stalker.
And here she is, presenting herself before us for spraying the magic word.
“You guys, wanna have a kiss from me?”
