Her sharp unwelcoming voice drifted over the phone. I let out an exasperated sigh. I was a fool for thinking my mother could change for any reason. “Come home immediately. I have something urgent to tell you.” “Mom, is there any problem? How are you?” She replied to me with a bitter scoff and ended the call in an instant. “She still hates me.” I muttered to myself. I stared at the phone screen for an extended period, expecting that she'd call back and maybe greet me warmly and ask how I was faring, but it was over two minutes of glaring at my phone and none of that happened. I took a deep breath to calm my dampened mood and shoved the phone into my pants pockets.
