* * * * Thomas had exited the bathroom once the sun began to set. He drew the blinds against the last reddish light, which still stung his eyes. The lights were still out, which didn’t surprise him. Whatever this weirdness was, it was something profound, something that wasn’t just going to go away. The apartment door swung open and Brad stumbled into the little front room which was also the kitchen. His hands and clothes were stained red, and Thomas caught a strong whiff of blood, the scent almost overpowering, even from the other side of the room.
