We were having a nice night out, with dinner and a show and everything, the first such night I’d ever had with Byron. And then they came at me with, like, x-ray vision. Seeing right through me. It must have been Cole. Maybe because he saw my car? Maybe because he had that history? I don’t know. I was so embarrassed. So ashamed.
But they were acting like I had nothing to be ashamed of. Said they knew people who’d had to scramble, and maybe they were those people sometime.
I couldn’t quite believe in it. Not until Cole went in his own room, and it was clear that he really wasn’t expecting anything from me.
