Chapter One

"What there was?" Feyre watched his partner who looked increasingly agitated. “Nair is furious,” Rhys replied. "What did you do to make the little sun angry?" Cassian taunted his brother with his arms crossed over his chest. "I hid something I shouldn't" Feyre who had his mind linked to Rhys's sighed deeply "I see... will Helion react in the same way as she?" “I don't know…we'll just have to wait and see,” Rhysand replied, slumping into his office chair as he massaged his temple. A big hurricane was about to hit and it had a very unusual name. ... “Miss, are you sure you want to do this? This place doesn't seem appropriate…” Lanis continued to complain and Nair glared at him. “Shut up. If you're not going to say something useful, stay behind,” she said dryly. "But you said..." “My dad said it would be ideal for me to have a guard on my side, Lanis, but that doesn't mean I can't turn you to ashes before you can blink.” That was a direct threat and Lanis – as well as everyone around her. the day princess – knew what it meant. Shut up or you won't survive for me to shut you up. The abandoned mansion soon came into view. Visors climbed the walls and Nair could hear the laughter inside. How many times had she seen her brother? She tried to remember. There was a time when Lucien had received his left eye from his uncle's artisan to replace the one Amarantha had taken out, she remembered. Just like the night Feyre showed up under the mountain and Lucien – just like her – was beaten to force her to speak her name. The lashes that Tamlin gave her brother... Nair's blood boiled. Tamlin. Yes, he would be the first to suffer, then he would have to thank Feyre for making his job easier. Two knocks in a row on the front door and Jurian appeared. The human male was truly handsome – for a mere mortal – and Nair almost lost himself in thoughts of the possible chance his brother was romantically involved with that man and that human queen they both lived with. It would be sad for him that he would live for centuries when they would both die within 70 years at most. "What do you want, Lady Nair?" the human general questioned, his eyes were sharp and he soon became aware of Lanis waiting for her 10 paces away. "I wish to speak with Lucien Vanserra" she replied gently, giving Jurian a small smile. The General sighed, opening the door for her and gently leading her to a sofa that faced the fireplace. It was late winter for mortals now. The mortal queen was sitting on the sofa with impeccable posture, her hair was auburn – a little stronger than Lucien's – and Nair, who had inherited some of Helion's traits, found herself almost lost in the mortal's beauty, but when the eyes of Lucien stopped over her, the princess glanced at him quickly. "How could it be of use to you?" He questioned, but there was no longer the mockery of when he'd affronted Amarantha in his voice or the brashness she'd heard belonged to him as he walked through the courts—before he'd been kicked out of autumn. "Actually...I think I'll be of use to you, Lucien" Intrigued the redhead, he got up from the sofa, leaving Vassa alone and approaching the princess. "Rhysand sent you?" Nair felt his teeth clench at the sound of the great lord's name, but he slowly calmed down, smiling at his brother. “No, but let's say it also involves him. Could we... talk alone?” It was obvious in her face that there were a thousand questions to be asked, but Lanis wasn't the only one to know the temperament and fame that the princess of the day court did without, so Lucien gently guided her upstairs. The place was reasonably well maintained. There was little furniture, but it was a little more than needed to survive. “So…” he started running a hand through his long red hair. "You know that like Rhysand and Feyre, I'm a daemeti, don't you?" Nair questioned him already knowing the answer. “Yes, I believe everyone in Prythian knows that,” he replied. "Then I guess it won't be hard to understand" she sighed "when there was the war between Prythian and Hybern, my father and Rhysand talked with Feyre and the two discovered something." Lucien listened to her with some confusion on his face. “My father told them about the past, the first war to free mortals and about…a love he can't fight. Unlike Rhysand who stole Feyre on the day of his wedding to Tamlin, my father didn't have that chance, much less was blessed again by the cauldron with a noose that allowed him to demand his beloved from the horrible man she had married.” Nair took one hand to her face and I continue calmly, “this woman my father loved so much after my mother's death, was the autumn lady, Lucien. She was his mother”. The redhead who had looked confused before now chuckled suspiciously. "Helion, did the grand lord of the day court have an affair with my mother?" Nair sighed, “her mother was almost captured by the enemy troops and even after all her sisters sacrificed, she was about to be caught, but my father saved her. Amidst the war and events, they fell in love and had an affair. You… are the result of this affair between the two of them.” The princess's final words made Lucien's right eye water. “What the hell are you…” Nair showed it. Carefully he invaded his brother's mind, crawling under his shield and showing him their parents together. Helion had a sparkle in his eyes that the princess had not seen for a long time, and the autumnal lady, who in Lucien's memories always seemed haggard and painfully melancholy, smiled at the man who caressed her face. "They loved each other" she continued, "they still love each other...but my father would never start a war that would endanger his people out of selfishness." “He's a real grand lord,” Lucien muttered almost automatically, his mind wandering over the memories Nair showed him. "Why?" Why had Helion never done anything? That's what he wanted to ask. "He didn't know" Nair replied getting up and walking towards his brother "our father didn't know you were his son, your mother knew that if Beron discovered the origin of your birth, he would kill you as a child" "As if he hadn't tried," the redhead muttered mockingly. "Yes, he tried" Nair agreed "but now it's time to make them pay" Lucien looked at her in surprise "you intend to start a war?" "No" she replied "a war now would do us no good, but none of those who hurt you will come out unscathed and that includes Rhysand, Tamlin and Eris." The redhead shivered "Rhysand?" “He and Feyre knew. They found out the night my father told them about your mother and he still hid it from us,” she growled. Lucien's gaze was lost, but carefully, Nair took his hand. “You are no longer alone, Lucien. You have us, you have me" "What does that mean?" He muttered with a lost look. “It means you have a family who would kill for you and a sister who will allow nothing less than proper treatment for the next grand lord of the day court.” Nair smiled, “come with me. Come home". Home, the redhead thought. Once he'd think the autumnal court had been his home, then...the spring court where Tamlin had taken him in, but after being thrown into the night court, Lucien had learned there was no such thing as a home. Now she called him home? "Here is my home" he muttered "a place for those who have nowhere to go or a place to belong." “No,” Nair replied calmly, “you do. Jurian is a general, Vassa a mortal queen and the only one we really have left, and you…brother, you who were born to rule our court.” “I never wanted to be a grand lord,” he replied quickly. "But the cauldron chose him" “The cauldron also gave me a partner who can't even stand to look at my face and I can't even judge her for that,” he muttered. "Leave her. There is not only one partner in this world for you” the blonde whispered with her forehead pressed to his “I will protect you, Lucien. The world may not be perfect but it's not that bad and as long as we have each other and hold my hand, I promise…everything will be fine.” It would be difficult, she knew. It would be complicated at first and would probably take a while for them to fully understand each other, but she wouldn't leave it alone.
