Chapter Three

1806 Words
Rhysand massaged his temples as he thought about what to do. "Nair won't do anything," Feyre said, with Nyx being cradled in her arms. "Azriel threatened Lucien's life..." Rhysand reminded her "he wants his partner and Nair knows it" "How much does she know?" Feyre asked, lifting his blue eyes to his partner. Rhysand's office was normally noisy from inner circle meetings, but now there was only silence. The silence that hung over them and reminded them of their mistake. "Everything, I... I was careless" This was practically impossible, Feyre knew. Rhys was methodical, he was careful. He trusted Nair to the point of neglect and now…maybe Velarys was in danger. "Lucien is my friend. He wouldn't let Nair destroy Velarys or hurt our people," she tried to speak, as if that would help her calm down. "Helion is a great friend too, but... Nair is spiteful, Feyre dear," Rhys reminded her. Nair was the one who hunted down everyone who dared to step into the day court during Amarantha's reign. She was the one who killed, beheaded and exposed everyone who hurt her father, who touched something that belonged to her. For Nair, who had lost his mother too soon, family was everything. Thesan and Helion were like her center of the world and the Great Lord knew that with Lucien it would be no different. The fox would now have a real demon guarding him. Someone who scared him more than Azriel when he tortured others. ... Nair watched Lucien leave the dressing room again and again. The robes of the day court fit her brother perfectly, but for her that could not even be considered a novelty. “What beautiful skin you have” said one of the saleswomen. “Wonderful hair” the hairdresser praised. "Look at that smile" a young designer flirted and the princess looked more like a proud mother watching Lucien get distracted. “Vassa would certainly call me a spoiled little prince if she saw me like that,” Lucien muttered, putting on his fifth outfit and having his hair braided by a young woman who looked more like a beautiful ray of sunshine. For a moment he had forgotten how beautiful the girls of the day court were. "I wouldn't say spoiled, but he's certainly a prince" Nair reminded him, sitting on the arm of his chair and gently kissing his brother's cheek, "Don't you like those clothes?" "They're comfortable" he smiled "but you seem to be wearing me like a doll" “What an insult,” Nair replied through a chuckle, “at best a beautiful new picture to be painted. It was natural, he noticed. His laugh, his loving gaze. Everything about Nair made him believe that a family was not something unreal. He wanted to believe. He wanted too much. The white and silver floor was painted by Nair's footsteps, the black skin and silver hair seemed to be highlighted by the dress full of slits and openings, she danced and twirled around the room as a beautiful violin sound invaded the place and Lucien found himself smiling while her hair was touched by warm hands. She turned and turned, as if the whole world was her stage, as if her body and music were one and nothing could stop her. Her eyes closed and her lips parted in a gleeful smile. Nair danced and danced, her feet lifted into the air as if light breezes carried her. It was as if the wind, as if magic wrapped around her and drove her. Like a ray of sunlight, Helion emerged and before Lucien was aware of it, he and Nair were dancing in front of her, smiling as he guided her, their steps graceful and slow, rocking their daughter like a small ballerina. Helion's hands barely touched Nair's body, but there was so much there that it was enough to envelop her and toss her from side to side. Holding her fingertips, Helion spun her around and around. Her platinum hair blew through the air, and for a moment Lucien found himself comparing Nair's vision to one of Feyre's paintings. One of those that made your heart shudder. Helion smiled and hummed along with the violin, accompanied by the murmur of his daughter. “Together until the end…” Nair hummed. "I will always be by your side" Helion completed, smiling as he hugged her. "How touching" a laughing voice joked as he approached the two with a violin in hand. Lucien, who finally had his hair completely braided and decorated with jewelry and laurel leaves, stood up automatically. Blond hair, amber eyes and pale skin. Wings rose up its back, feathers white as clouds. A seraphim. “Don't be an asshole, Kali.” Nair smiled walking towards the seraph and hugging him. "How could when you smile like that at me?" He questions her with a gentle kiss being deposited on her cheek, but soon her gaze moves to Lucien "And you must be Prince Lucien" "Hello" the redhead smiled. “Lucien, this is Kali. A really big son of a b***h, but…a great friend” Nair's performance had the redhead holding back a laugh as Kali raised an eyebrow. "What a way to introduce myself..." The princess laughed "Am I wrong?" “I never said that,” she replied. "It's great to meet you" Lucien completed extending his hand and Helion who watched the three smiled "it's great that you came home, Kali" “I would not lose a possible war” the seraphim completed. "There will be no war" Nair smiled "only accidental deaths". “You can't kill them like that…” Lucien muttered and felt his sister's warm touch on his cheek. "Luc, there's nothing a son of the sun can't do." Helion smiled "and there is no magic I can't undo or runes I can't create" “Just as there are no minds I cannot break,” Nair purred again. “Or bodies I can't mutilate” Kali smiled “so, prince. Just smile and leave the rest to us.” Lucien's eyes fluttered. It was wrong, he knew, but something warmed inside his chest at hearing them. “But for now? Let's go hunting,” Kali suggested, hands digging into her pants pockets. "To hunt?" helion laughed “No one beats me at archery,” Lucien joked. "I just need my spear" Nair added and playing along, Helion made a small wine pitcher and a book float towards him. "I will watch while you hunt and we will do what we can, our feast tonight" “We should close by sunset,” Kali suggested. “The sunset is really beautiful at the day court,” Nair agreed and smiled at Lucien, “and whoever gets the smallest prey must obey the other two, what do you think? Shall we destroy Kali and make her our slave for one night?” Lucien chuckled seeing Kali and Nair nudge each other like children who loved to tease each other and thoughtfully agreed with their sister. A golden bow was given to him and his arrows were made of pure energy. Lucien seemed delighted with the weapon, his fingers fit perfectly as he held it, and the delicacy it was for him to pull the string made him sigh. He would never miss an arrow, not with a weapon like that. His fingers glided across the delicate surface and astride Magnus, he soared over and alongside Nair, hunted through the jewel forests that stretched across daytime territory. Nair floated, danced through the air like a butterfly, and thrust his spear into every prey he reached. Lucien accurately hit their hearts and Kali, with a sadistic smile, stabbed the small animals making them unrecognizable pieces of meat. Helion accompanied them from afar. Arms crossed over his chest as he flew in his golden chariot that was drawn by horses of fire. There he calmly sipped his wine and smiled as he saw Nair cursing Kali for stealing her fangs. Just as the four had resolved, they returned before sunset. The fangs were thrown onto the marble porch and Helion decreed that Kali was the loser for shedding much of her prey's flesh by slaughtering them. Even considering it unfair, the seraphim followed what the grand lord decreed and complained while Nair forced him to fetch wine for her and Lucien. The redhead's lips curved upward as Nair hummed, leaning against her shoulder. The sky was taken on an orange hue and Lucien knew that in the end, this was one of the most beautiful sunsets he had ever seen. The wine was poured by Kali and Lucien heard him mutter. "It's good that you're finally home, Your Majesty" Her eyes flicked to Kali, but the seraphim just stared up at the sky, humming. ... Night had fallen, the laughter and drinking and singing were behind him, and Lucien felt embraced by his bed sheet like a child rocked by its mother for a bedtime. His eyes grew heavy and like a feather falling, he allowed himself to be carried away in the dream. Firm steps. White wings... feathery and a sweet little smile. “I found you, majesty” the little blond boy said. “You have wings…” Lucien murmured, his childish voice…calm and tearful. "Yes" he replied simply "Would you like to touch them?" "I can?" "Of course" the blond boy replied, stretching one of his wings so that the plump pink hands caressed his wings. “Soft…” Lucien muttered. His eyes just blinked and soon the blond boy was gone. Eris watched as his brothers beat him and Lucien cried. His father was certainly angry again. So... Eris went with the others, laughing and a slight flutter of wings made him look up at the reddened sky of the autumnal court. "Your Majesty, I found you..." the voice repeated. "Why?" He whined "why do they always hit me?" The seraph boy sighed "because they are hurt too" “But I didn't do anything” Lucien cried. “Don't worry, Your Majesty” the boy comforted him, with the tips of his fingers drying his tears “one day, he will return to his home... and he will dance, sing, live beside the one who loves him and feel the warmth of being loved ” "House..." “Yes,” he continued, “a place where the sky becomes lighter, where the sun embraces you and Pegasus flies everywhere. Where books and more books expand everywhere and trees are like jewels" "Beautiful..." "It's your home" he muttered "you'll be home and you'll be happy" "You will be there?" He asked in a sly voice. “I will always find him, majesty” the blond boy purred like a sly kitten.
