Winter’s POV
Staring outside the window I began to ponder on the recent events that happened. Father had refused to speak to me for two days now; he would avoid eye contact with me and act as if I was invisible.
Emotions surged through me and I tried to juggle them. Fear, pain, insecurity, tension, hatred and the likes. If the inheritance fell into Mel’s hands I would lose Mother’s stuff, she treasured this house like her own life and we created the most beautiful memories ever in it and it contains special antiques that were worth fortunes.
Father also owned several other valuable land and treasures, Mel would only squander them to suit her lavish lifestyle and it was obvious she didn’t care about me either. I sighed; accepting that douche bag of a mate was going to make my life a living hell.
I was in between the devil and the deep blue sea. I could either lose the inheritance and drown in the sea of guilt of failing my mother forever or go back to my mate and embrace the devil itself. The door suddenly yanked opened jolting me out of my reverie.
“Hello cousin.” Mel drawled; her voice laced with sarcasm.
I groaned, didn’t bother to hide my discomfort towards her presence.
“Heard Uncle Derek wasn’t well, I came to see him. He’s in his room isn’t he?” She asked.
“He’s fine now, thank you.” I replied.
“Don’t be silly darling, he’s like a father to me, and I have to see him.” She insisted.
She giggled annoyingly and began to make her way to father’s room, I trailed behind her, and she stepped into his room and gasped dramatically seeing his condition. She threw her bag on a nearby couch.
“Father!”
She rushed towards him and held his hand, Father’s weary eyes slowly opened and a smile appeared on his face seeing her.
“Mel.” He said his voice shaky.
“How are you? What happened? You should have told me you’re this sick.” Mel complained then turned to face me.
“Why didn’t you inform me that his condition has worsened, I would never forgive myself if something happens to him!” She added.
I rolled my eyes seeing how dramatic and pretentious she was. Father coughed and she tended to him, he held her hands tenderly.
“Mel, your old man is very old and would soon join his ancestors.” Father began.
“Father! Don’t say such things.” I scolded.
He ignored my words.
“I wish above anything to see you both happy and settled, I want to see your mates before dying. Your sister found hers few days ago and proudly rejected him; I will give my entire inheritance to whoever brings me their mate before I die.”
“Father!” I yelled.
I could see the smirk on Mel’s face.
“Don’t yell at him, he’s unwell.” Mel said with fake sympathy.
“Mother would never say this to me if she was here, she wouldn’t try to blackmail me!” I yelled without thinking.
“If she were here she’d die from the shame you’re trying to bring to this family.” Father retorted.
I couldn’t believe my ears and stormed out of the room angrily. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I halted at the garden, it was the place my Mother loved the most and we would always come there to talk. I felt my strength weaken and defeated.
Father was a man of his words; I began to wonder how I had wronged the goddess that earned me this sort of horrible fate. I let out my frustration and growled loudly, I didn’t know for how long but all I knew was that I got miserable.
I calmed down much later and just stared into the distance, I felt a hand touch my shoulders from behind and turned to see Mel smirking at me, I wanted to slap the smirk off her face but I held back.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“Dear cousin, I’m sure you heard what Father said.”
“Get your hands off me.” I scowled.
She retreated.
“We should do what our Father wants because he’s…” She began but I cut her short.
“My father, he’s my Father, not ours, not yours.” I corrected.
She sighed and began to slowly circle me.
“You treasure this house above anything else, I’ve always thought you’d be a lone wolf but you actually have a mate, but goodness me! You rejected him, that is so sad and depressing but then Father thinks only the one who brings him her mate deserves to inherit his fortune, what to do sister?” She mocked.
“Get over it, what do you want’?” I asked with gritted teeth.
There was bad blood between us from the onset, Mother’s presence was the only thing that made me tolerate her and ever since she died I got tired of having to keep up with her cunning ways, she was pretentious and fake.
“I have my eyes on this house, it would fetch me enough money to last a lifetime, my mate is also eager to have me beside him. What will it be Cousin, can you find yourself a mate in less than two days?” She mocked.
My entire shook and I clenched my fists in anger. She stopped, smiled at me, patted my shoulder and began to walk away. I desperately wanted to go after her and rip her head off her neck but I held back.
It was at this moment that I made my decision.
‘Let’s go teach this b***h a lesson Silver.” I said to my wolf.
I smirked and went straight to the alpha’s mansion. Upon arrival, the guards and maids whispered among themselves but I was less concerned. I requested audience with the alpha which I was granted, after speaking with him for half an hour he ordered that I was directed towards the proud jerk’s chamber.
A maid knocked on the door to announce my arrival but he growled in response and threatened to rip her neck off, she cowered in fear and I smirked, I kicked the door and forced it open.
He was dumb stricken seeing me walk in, I discharged the maids while he couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Proud donkey, let’s get married, I agree to be your mate.” I announced.
