Lyla's POV I woke up covered in sweat and I had no clue where I was. The room was pitch black and the blanket on me was heavy, and I knew by the way my heart was beating that I had had another nightmare. I tried to push the blanket off me, but the searing pain in my back was fast and intense. Everything that happened came flashing back. The man, the broken glass and the knife and something being shoved into my arm, but also Max and his soft words trying to calm me and his hand on my face, but I was so terrified at that point that I couldn't stop. I finally got the blanket off me, and I slowly sat up. My back hurt so much, and I felt like I was hungover or what I imagined a hangover would feel like.
