Kelsea's stomach had been improving; that day she sat in the dining room and asked the maid for a vegetable salad, a fruit salad, and grilled chicken. She felt hungry and eager to see her pregnancy grow. But not everything was rosy; Carter's figure appeared in the dining room, causing her happiness to fade. "I can see you have a good appetite today," he said as he sat at the table and looked straight into her eyes. Kelsea lowered her gaze, nervous. Carter's face radiated terror—a terror that was not there the day before and wreaked havoc on her. "Just like you did yesterday when you had lunch with the doctor," Carter added, making Kelsea's face turn pale. Her legs trembled, and her voice broke when she tried to speak. "I only had lunch with him because I wanted to talk," she whispered.
