Chapter 8

1001 Words
It's damned cold outside, maybe it's going to rain tonight. I blew on my hands, and rubbing them together, trying to melt the cold away. I check on my phone, its screen blared to live, showing me what time it is. It's 9.45 pm now. Tonight is the night. I had promised Ivy to find her missing cat. She had told me her precise address; I guess she still remembered it despite her bad memory. She had told me all about it when we were in the library the other day. I was waiting for Ash to arrive now. He insisted to accompany me on my little mission tonight. He's such a great friend. We are going to go on foot since Ivy's house isn't far from our neighbourhood. I'm standing all alone under the oak tree outside my front yard. I had told my parents that Ash and I are going to catch a late-night movie. It's a lie, but I couldn't tell them the truth. My mom would freak out about it, besides that, they never knew about my stupid little ability. While I was busy imagining my mom's freaked out face, I heard rustling sounds behind the bush not too far away from me. I turned to look in that direction. It's a little dark, but there was good enough light coming from the street lamp along the pavement. I bent a little forward to get a closer look, the rustling sounds came again and this time I can see the leaves moving. Something came out from it. Oh s**t! It makes its way towards me. I shuffled backwards, ready to turned and run when I heard a little meowing sound. "Meeeooowww, "I stared down and saw a very pretty grey cat staring back at me. Its green big eyes glowing, with its beautiful long bushy tail perch up. Pffffft, did I just got scared by a cat? I thought to myself. The cat slowly getting closer to me, and I crouch down reaching my hand out to pat it, "come on, kitty, come here," I said to it, the cat came and allowed me to pat its head, and started to brush its head on my leg. I smiled gently when I heard the cat's purring. "What are you doing?" came a voice behind me, I jumped out of surprise and almost tramped on the cat. Ash came peering out, the street lamp shining its light upon him. He had his hands inside his pockets, his face puzzled.  "Oh my god, you almost made me killed the cat, bro!" I yelled back at him. "There's a cat? Where is it?" his neck stretching out trying to find the cat. I turned to look too and realized the cat was missing. Ash coming closer and stand beside me, one eyebrow arching quizzically. "Dude, I swear there's a cat just now, I was patting its head, and we were making a connection before you came out of nowhere giving me a f*****g spook," I said out loud. Ash raised both of his hands in the air, "ok, ok, I believe you, jeez, and sorry for frightening you. But didn't you say there's a cat? Could it be it's the cat that we're looking for?" My mouth opens slowly, that's right, it could be Bell. I started to look around the bush to find it, "what are you doing now?" asked Ash exasperatedly. "You could be right, I haven't even thought about it, it could have been Bell, we need to find him," I said still frantically searching inside the bush. He groaned and started searching too.  Both of us were engrossed with our cat searched. I think we had been searching for quite some time, then Ash let out a cry, "it's here Danny, over here," came his voice. I craned my neck to see. Ash's pointing at one of the hydrangea shrubs that's on my neighbour's yard. I make my way to him, "I can see its tail," he whispered finger still pointing. I kneel, peering under, and saw him. "Bell?" my hand stretching out to reach the cat. He hesitated for a minute, "Bell, come here, let's go back to Ivy," I continued. Its whiskers twitch when he hears that name, without delay he made his way to me. When he was about to reach me, came a loud urgent voice asking, "Is that you guys? Danny? Ash? What are you doing over there?" Both of us jump as we hear it, I stand up quickly to see Millie peering out at the other side of the street.    Ash and I both turned a shocking look at each other. She's standing there opposite us, holding a plastic bag, she probably out buying some stuff at the convenience store nearby. I'm about to reply to her when I saw Bell already getting out of the shrubs, with a whisk of his tail he runs towards the road. "Bell, wait!" I shouted. I ran too, trying to catch up with him, running to the road. I managed to grab Bell and held him in my arms, then, I saw a blinding light up ahead. I didn't realize I'm standing in the middle of the road. I knew what's up ahead, it's a coming car. I tried to move but I couldn't, I stood there, frozen. I heard someone screaming. Suddenly I felt a sharp push and I fell to the ground. Then, came a deafening sound of screeching brake and a loud crash. I opened my eyes and saw a lying figure on the road. I was shaking like crazy, still holding Bell in my arms, I crawl towards the body. Millie. I tried to shake her, to wake her up. But she was motionless. A river of blood flooding the street. No. It can't be. I was hit with déjà vu. My dream. This is exactly like my dream. I scream. Streams of tears flowed down my face.
