Chapter 6 Like a Beast Stalking Its Prey

1201 Words
Rebecca suffered from a loud slap.  Rebecca was caught off guard, and her head got knocked to the side, and that smug look was gone from her face. She gawked at Everly in disbelief, and her shock slowly turned into anger. "How dare you slap me!" "Why can't I? Who the hell do you think you are, huh?" In the next second, Everly suddenly grabbed Rebecca by the throat and forcefully pushed her head toward the window. Rebecca's feet left the ground, and her upper body was already sticking out the window. The height from the fifteenth floor was making her scalp all tingly, and her eyes were popping out of her head. Even her screams carried a freaking tremor. "Help! She's gonna kill me." "Rebecca, I used to let your crap slide, but did you really think I'm some kind of pushover?" Everly spoke, her tone really calm. "Since you can't keep that big mouth of yours shut, I don't mind silencing you forever." And with that, she tightened her grip on Rebecca's throat. Rebecca was about to completely hang in mid-air, all outside the window. She was beyond terrified, screaming for her life, "Sorry! I'm sorry! I promise I won't do it again." Maybe because this spectacle was too freaking thrilling, it attracted a whole bunch of onlookers. Someone casually whipped out their phone to shoot a video. Glancing at the crowd, Everly suddenly realized that she'd have to go back to inherit the Wesson family's business in a few days and decided to stop so as not to cause herself any trouble. "Never again!" Everly snorted and pulled Rebecca back from outside the window. Rebecca's feet finally touched the ground. As she felt that solid feeling beneath her, she heaved a sigh of relief. She hastily got up and flew away, throwing glances back at Everly as a warning while she was walking. "Everly, just you wait! My family won't let you go!" Everly raised an eyebrow, man, and the cold smile on her face made her attractive look even more stunning. "Well then, bring it on!" The Hasting family had nothing to do with her anymore, and she had nothing to damn worry about. And if the Hastings really pushed their luck, she was all ready to knock them back to where they came from. When Everly went back to her room, Rebecca's words were still lingering in her ears. "Don't think I don't know why you mysteriously disappeared back then. My brother spilled everything to me!" Little did Everly expect that promises could be so damn cheap. Little did she know that the guy she loved with all her heart never trusted her. Did Thomas forget why I got kidn*pped? How could he just feel no guilt and rub salt in my wounds? The memories of what had happened in that alley late at night made Everly shake uncontrollably. Her heart seemed to be breaking, and the pain took hold of her, so overwhelming. Suddenly, a knock on the door snapped Everly back to reality. She looked over and saw Vincent standing at the door. All her panic just disappeared, replaced by a hint of surprise. Never did she expect to meet Vincent, whom she had just waved goodbye to earlier, again, especially when she was in such a miserable state. "Is there anything I can do for you?" asked Everly. Vincent, who was in his well-cut suit, made his way toward Everly against the light. The sun cast a yellow glow on him, emphasizing his elegance like he was some untouchable godly being. He locked his dark eyes onto Everly's face and frowned slightly when he noticed the tears in her eyes. "Well, I just realized we never swapped contact deets." Vincent pulled out his phone, opens up his MSN, and hands it over to Everly. "Hit me up whenever you have time." Seeing his serious face, Everly smirked. "Since I promised your grandma, I won't break my word." Vincent responded, "I have no doubt about it. Honestly, I really appreciate it. Thank you for sparing some time to have a chat with her. I'll be your top-notch chauffeur and show my gratitude." His words show gratitude and his desire to exchange contact deets with her. And the trust he was pouring out made Everly feel warm inside. After a moment of hesitation, she took Vincent's phone and friended him on MSM. The next moment, Vincent continued, "Could you give me your number, just in case messages get delayed?" Everly's like, "Hmm..." She could totally sense this guy was up to something, but he didn't seem shady with his chill demeanor. Therefore, Everly sighed and gave in, sending him her phone number. Vincent dialed a call, heard Everly's phone ring, and hung up. "Here's my number. I hope you can save it." With Vincent's eyes on her, Everly saves his number. "Anything else I can do for you?" She couldn't figure out what was on this guy's mind, but she could perceive some danger from him. Her gut feeling told her it was better to keep her distance from him. The smart Vincent could totally sense the distance in her words. He stared at her, his dark eyes glittering. "Don't you already have a clue about my intentions? Grandma has told me that when I'm pursuing a woman, I have to show complete sincerity and be modest, proactive, and considerate. And most importantly, I have to be faithful till the end. I think you already noticed my proactive moves, didn't you?" The spot between Everly's eyebrows twitched when she heard what Vincent said. She never saw it coming. Vincent was actually so upfront about her guesses and straight-up confessed his feelings and intentions. It totally caught her off guard, and she didn't know what to do with it. "Vincent, what's with all these sudden shits?" Everly dodged his gaze a bit, and she decided to play dumb. She wasn't in the mood to deal with this guy right now, and she definitely wasn't ready for a new relationship. Besides, they barely even knew each other, just two strangers who had recently met. "You must have noticed how much my grandma likes you." Vincent kept staring at her, no blinking or anything, and there was this kind of mysterious glimmer in his eyes like he meant something more. "But more importantly, I have a thing for you." He was so straightforward and didn't leave any room for Everly to play dumb. Their eyes met, no warning or nothing, and Everly's heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked away, avoiding his gaze in a rush. "Sorry, but what's with this sudden decision of yours? We barely even know each other, and I'm not really in the mood for a new romance right now." She didn't really know this guy in front of her, but guys were usually proud and full of themselves. Most would feel embarrassed and disappointed when a woman straight-up rejected them. "How much you gotta know about me before you accept my love, huh?" Vincent's eyes locked onto Everly's with a deep, mysterious look. It was like a wild animal staring at its prey.
