Chapter 2: Alpha Bane Cohen

Chapter 2 Bane Cohen is handsome. He had this godly presence around him that made you bow your head. The Alpha is tall and tanned with dark black hair and silver bright eyes that signified his birthright towards the Alpha's Daughter. His high cheekbones and jawline looked as though the Moon Goddess sculpted them herself. Bane caught my eye and his emotionless stone cold silver orbs widened a fraction before looking away. I didn't realize I held my breath until my lungs screamed for it. When Bane was gone Owen pushed me to the side. "Don't tell me you're his mate!" It was impossible. I wasn't a werewolf and I would be able to feel it if he was. He wasn't. I think. Marco yanked Owen off me. "He's not." He said rolling his eyes looking irritated. "I could only wish." I commented jokingly to lighten the mood. Both boys turned towards me with a foul look on their face. "What?" I shrugged with a pout. "He's hot." - The news of Bane Cohen enrolling in the school spread like wild fire. All wanted to see him or wanted to hear his voice. The Alpha was too far away from his home and frankly everyone was wondering why he was here. Whereas Marco and I kept dodging him. He's at the cafeteria? We go to the track to eat there. He's by the lockers? We use the fire exit. I didn't know why Marco seemed so keen on not seeing the Alpha but I followed after him since I felt uneasy with Bane Cohen. His presence was too much for me. Everything about him screamed power. The way he walked. The way he talked. Even the way he breathed. There was something about him though. Something weird. I couldn't quite place it. It wasn't until the last period when I had different classes with Marco when I found myself face to face with Bane Cohen. I was walking out of the room towards the stairs texting Marco when I literally slammed into him. "A-Alpha!" I squeaked like a scared mouse. Bane steadied me and bent down to pick my stuff up. My eyes bulged. Bane f*****g Cohen just touched me. Oh my god. Oh my god. Keep calm. He's looking at me, oh my god. Be cool. The Alpha of the most powerful pack is picking up my books. Holy Goddess. Someone loves me up there. Bane passed me my books a permanent emotionless face looking directly at me. He's even more handsome up close. Hallelujah. I was sweating and I'm sure he could tell my heart was on the verge of going through a series of palpitations. Think, Avery. Think. This is the most powerful man in the world. Not many get to live long enough to talk to him. Say something smart. Yes. I can do that. Smart is easy. I'm smart. "I was texting Marco." What. The. Actual. Oh Goddess smite me now. Why did I say that? I thought you loved me more than this Goddess. He raised an eyebrow at me. "Marco?" Oh sweet baby Jesus that voice. It was deep and brooding and like a slice of heaven. "Oh, sorry. Word vomit." I apologized swallowing hard lowering my head. He just stared making me even more uneasy. Alpha Bane is tall, broad and scary. He is everything an Alpha should be. "He's my friend." I explained doing too much swings with my arms. Great. He's gonna think I'm a windmill. Avery, you love machine you. Bane nodded at my answer pursing his lips when the silence took over. Why wasn't he leaving? Should I leave? Is that how it worked with Alphas? What does one even say to an Alpha? I've never met one. Am I even allowed to talk to him? My brain was throbbing making me feel dizzy and my stomach kept doing dips. You can do this. One more time. This time something smart and dynamic like a rogue does. Though to be honest I doubt rogues lived this long in Bane Cohen's presence. Smart and dynamic. "So, ah, you like cupcakes?" That was definitely not something you say to an Alpha. Fucks sake. That was no where near smart and dynamic. Goddess have mercy. It's one thing to be in a presence of pure power but to also make a fool of yourself? The Goddess hated me. Bane stared at me again and I found myself sweating like a waterfall. His eyes were much too grey like silver. He's the last one to have those eyes. Those big silver eyes that only an Alpha's Daughter had. The late Luna Gabrielle Bancroft of the Shadow Howlers had passed on and when it happened her mate, Alpha Titus Cohen, gave his title to their only heir, Bane Cohen. Suddenly, the Alpha gave me a small smile- a twitch of his mouth rather- before nodding. "Yes, I do." The smile was so out of place on his face yet so amazing at the same time I found my mouth opening slightly. It took a while to register that the big bad Alpha had answered me back about cupcakes. Cupcakes. Somehow. I don't think anyone would ever believe me if I told anyone about this. "Red Velvets." He continued sounding gruff and looking like he wanted one this instant. I smiled wanting a red velvet cupcake too. It was almost funny to see a big bad Alpha liking something so basic. He watched me like he was waiting for me to talk back. "I know a great place where they make the nicest cream for the top." I tell him not knowing what I was doing. Silence broke and I awkwardly forced myself not to stare or sweat too much. I'm pretty sure he could smell fear. I was about to awkwardly leave and go to my locker so I could attend my swimming training when his eyes if possible brightened even more. "Alright. Let's go." Alpha Bane says while crossing his chest. He was beyond intimidating. I stared at him. Half expecting him to jump and shout 'I'm joking mutt. You're a rogue. Don't ever talk to me again.' But instead he grabbed my shoulder and guided me towards his black Lamborghini parked outside the school. Crowds of people watched horrified as he hauled me towards his car. Before I could say a word he opened the door of the passengers side as I got betrayed by my own legs and moved on their own to sit on his luxurious car. All I could think about as I sat there and watched him walk around the car to his side was that Marco and Old John were gonna lock me in a dungeon. ...And also how big Bane's arm were. I mean like wow. Those big guys could kill and choke. - Alpha Bane Cohen of the notorious Shadow Howlers sat in front of me with about two dozen cupcakes between us. I couldn't believe I was here. In a cupcake store. With Bane Cohen. I found myself staring into his eyes once again. The silver sparkled like disco balls. "So I've heard." He says looking at me with an amused expression. I froze horrified. Did I say that out loud? Oh my god. He chuckled a deep rare chuckle that I doubt I'll ever hear again. "Yes, you did." Oh my god. Oh sweet baby Goddess. "I'm sorry, again." I say burying my face in my hands. My cheeks were flaming with embarrassment. Bane studied me for a moment. "I'm the first Alpha you've met." He said. It wasn't even a question but a statement like he knew he was the first. My cheeks flushed even more. "No you're not!" I defended pouting my lips like a defeated child. "There's this guy-" "He wasn't an Alpha yet was he?" He countered nonchalantly popping a chunk of cupcake in his mouth. I frowned. Bane was in fact the first. Old John had went through great lengths for me never to encounter a pack much more an Alpha. Packs as he said are ruthless. They take and take and never give. He says that packs always think that they're above everyone else. So yes. Alpha Bane is in fact the first and only Alpha I've ever met. To think the first one I meet is the strongest one of all. Bane Cohen is like royalty in the werewolf world. Everyone knows him. He's strong and powerful just like his parents. Titus Cohen and Gabrielle Bancroft-Cohen are two of the most powerful beings in the world. They are prodigies of the Legendary Alpha Gavin Bancroft. Bane is much like them. He's feared by all kinds of wolves knowing that his power is unquestionable. It's safe to say that I'm quite starstruck. His lineage and life in general is impressive and quite frankly frightening for a lone unshifted wolf like myself. It hit me that I knew Bane's name but he didn't know mine. He didn't even ask. I felt hurt for a moment like he was just using me. I had to be realistic. He's an Alpha. I'm a Rogue. I'm positively sure there are certain rules to interactions with Pack people and Rogue folk. I should introduce myself of course. Take it as a remembrance for the good cupcake he just had. I clear my throat gaining his attention with a raise of an eyebrow from him. Goddess even a raised eyebrow can make a grown man piss himself. I forced a smile before swallowing hard. "I'm Avery, by the way." Bane looked at me a smirk appearing in his god like face before shaking his head. "I know who you are, Avery Soren." I frowned at this. "Why?" An Alpha knowing an unshifted rogues name? Is that even possible? It defied every unspoken law in the werewolf world. "Why what?" He says distractedly looking at the table full of cupcakes. "Why do you know me?" I clarified shock still evident in my face. "Please?" I added in a hurry. I wasn't sure how to talk to an Alpha. Goddess I was sweating so much. He stopped eating for a moment before looking at me and shrugging. "I heard your name a couple of times. The school talks about you." I nod starting to eat the cupcakes that he bought me. The school talks a lot. Especially when it came to the mystery of Marco and I. It wasn't until we finished eating did I realize how much my phone has been buzzing in my jeans. I gave Bane a quick smile before pulling my phone out. My heart did a back flip. A hundred text messages from both Owen and Marco and about a million calls from them too. I held my breath as I stared down at my phone. It wasn't past curfew yet so I was safe from Old John. With shaky hands I opened one message from Marco. Marco the Giant: Where the f**k are you? I'm worried as hell! They say you left with Bane Cohen?! Answer your damn phone! I shut my phone off after that. Marco is like a big brother to me. I know he's only acting like this because he cares about me. As kids Old John always drilled it to Marco that he was to always watch over me. "Boyfriend troubles?" Bane asked a not so amused expression on his face. I flushed again. "N-no." I stammered. "I left the oven on and my uncle got mad." I lied. He saw right through it but didn't comment. "Better take you back then." I stood up absurdly almost knocking down my chair. "I can walk." I squeaked. "Nonsense. It's late." He half insisted half Alpha-voiced me as he stood up from his seat as well. "Exactly! You should be back to your pack." I pushed pulling on my wavy hair. I don't know where all the courage of answering to a very powerful Alpha came from but I hope I still live long enough to be able to get yelled at by Marco. Then again... Marco yelling the living day lights out of me doesn't sound that all amusing. Bane watched me for a moment as I panicked like a rabbit being chased by a lion. "Give me your number." Bane ordered after a good minute of staring at me. My heart did a back flip and a double somersault. "My what?" I whispered not believing what I just heard. "Your cell phone number." He said pointing at my crotch-I mean pocket. "Give it to me." Bane threw his expensive phone at me as I struggled to grab it. I blinked for a moment before typing my number in. I gave it back to him with shaky hands. He smiled a warm smile that I never thought Alpha's were capable of doing. "I'll see you tomorrow, Avery." - "Do you know how worried I was?!" Marco snarled his canines poking out of his lips. I was walking home thinking about my weird encounter with the Alpha when someone grabbed me roughly by the wrist towards the woods. Marco paced in front of me his dark dilated eyes threatening to give his wolf control. "Do you even know what Bane Cohen is capable of?" I shook my head my throat feeling like sandpaper. Of course I knew. He's Bane Cohen. He could kill me before he would even think about it. "He's a man w***e! He's just seducing you!" Marco shouted his growls becoming more feral my the minute. It was a lie. Bane Cohen is known for many things but never a man w***e. I didn't even see him talk to a girl in school earlier. Plus, he didn't need to seduce anyone. He was much too gorgeous on his own to even need to seduce people. And if he was into the whole seducing idea which he isn't, why me of all people? I'm an unshifted wolf. Wolves pity me. "I'm sorry." I whisper fisting my hands. I hated it when Marco was mad at me. He's my best friend and making him angry was something I hated doing. But I couldn't help it. There was something about Bane that made me so curious about his life. A pack life. What was it like? Were unshifters even allowed in packs? Marco sighed heavily before grabbing hold of my shoulders and hugging me. "I'm just glad you're okay." He pulls away kissing my forehead softly before taking my hand and walking home together. Old John was out for the night as Marco and I spent the night huddled in the living room wrapped in blankets while watching cartoon re-runs. The events of earlier forgotten. It was like that with Marco. He could never stay mad at me. - The next day Marco had to leave for school early for more football practice which meant I had to walk to school. We weren't rich. We barely lived off what Old John made from his work as a werewolf stripper- kidding! I mean bounty hunter. I have no idea how he does it but he does and it brings bacon and eggs to the table so we don't complain. Whenever I had to walk to school, I take a shortcut through the woods I discovered a few years back. It cuts my walk by around twenty minutes. The weather was still a little cold and the thin oversized red sweater I wore with some plain black leggings were failing me. I breathed out smoke coming out of my mouth. I brought my arms closer to my chest a shiver running down my back. "Bad choice of clothing." I told myself out loud kicking some dried leaves with my boots. Suddenly I felt those eyes again. Those yellow eyes that brought the hairs on my neck to stand up. The wind shifted and like it always did I smelled those deep rich smells I always got from the owner of the yellow eyes. I wasn't a wolf but my senses were slightly better than a humans. I turned but as expected the eyes weren't there. I frowned at nothing in particular. I would love to see those eyes just one more time. "Avery," I jumped at the voice from behind me. And just like that yellow eyes presence vanished like it always did when someone else was near me. I turned hoping my smile hid the disappointment I felt for the lack of yellows presence. "Alpha Bane."
