Chapter 5 SAPPHIRE'S POV: During the last few years of my life, I made a good friend named Kate. She's been there for me, and helped me out a lot in my most difficult times. I'm grateful to have met a soul like her. Even though I was still unsure of so many things while I was here. Such as; Dawn. Dawn was a fast learner even at the age of 5, I feared one day she would start asking for her father. A question which I don't even have the right answer to. What exactly do I tell her? Like how do I explain to her that I don't even know who her father is. The man I slept with years ago, I barely knew him, I couldn't even see his face not to talk of actually knowing him. Every now and then, I felt like a total failure to my daughter; Dawn. Sure, I make sure we always had something to eat. Kate on the other hand makes sure Dawn completely her four square meal everyday. Which is why I am always going to be grateful for knowing her. She treats Dawn as though dawn was her own flesh and blood. Kate claimed to live all by herself. She also had a hard time with her family so she resulted in staying alone but when we met that night when I was all cold and lonely, she didn't hesitate to help me. I could have possibly asked if she could allow me to rent a part of her place so I could stay but she didn't allow it. She couldn't bear to watch me hustle to that extent. She was kind and compassionate in every thing she did for me. I Wonder how I am going to repay her for this life she has given me. I had gone to the grocery store to get everything we would need for the rest of the week. We were literally out of almost everything, only a little remained and they were for little Dawn to chew on just incase. I had bought all that was needed when I walked up to the store keeper to pay for what I had purchased but she declined my card. "There's no need ma'am." "Ugh? why? Is there some free giveaway stuff I'm not aware of or something?" I struggled not to laugh. "No Honestly, you need not pay." "Why?" "A gentle man had paid for everything you bought, even times three, you can come back and get whatever you want." What's wrong with her? and who paid for everything I bought without my consent. The person just went ahead and paid a large amount for something he hasn't seen completely. But there was no one standing behind me, I didn't feel the presence of anyone else except me, no, I was the only one In the store, so who is this guy that paid for all the groceries I shopped? I got home that day, feeling tired and worried at the same time. Of course I'd be worried, how would anyone feel if someone paid for their shopped groceries? Kate was in the kitchen making a sandwich. Her turquoise blue eyes were fixed on the sandwich as she got them ready for herself and Dawn. "Kate!" I softly called her as i entered the kitchen. "Hey what's up? I was wondering what was taking you so long." "Something happened at the grocery store today. " I laid on the wall while observing Dawn as she feasted her eyes on the cartoon she was watching. "What? What happened? Are you okay?" " I am more than okay.... " I managed to say. "Does this happen often around here?" " What happened?" "Someone paid for my groceries." "Is that what's bothering you?" Kate raised a brow. "How will you be okay with someone paying for your groceries?" "I had considered it good fortune and forget about it , beside. This kind of thing rarely happens." "Thats just it. It something that's common." "Okay, okay, so what's your point?" Kate, so naive and innocent about such matters, how do I tell her the shop keeper said come back and purchase the same amount of groceries again? She'd probably freaked out. "You wouldn't get it." "Says who? make me get it." "The store keeper said I could come back and purchase the same amount of groceries I buy everytime." I could see Kate face change a bit. She was shocked but she was struggling not to show it. "... Oh." "Yes, Kate, is that normal?" "No. Not something I know of, it only happens in novels." I frowned Immediately she said that. "For real, this is shocking... some stranger just paid for your purchases and well, you didn't get to see his face." "That's just the worst part. I didn't see him, neither did I sense the presence of anyone else in the grocery store." "Magic." Kate made an awkward expression. "It's not magic, argh Kate!." "Relax..." She was also having a hard time trying not to show her honest reaction to everything that I had told her. " I'm just going to give this sandwich to Dawn." "Sure." She took the plate of sandwich and headed off to where Dawn was seated. I faced the kitchen cabinet and started arranging the groceries into their respective places. I could hear Dawn giggle as she watched her cartoon. I could sense Kate's heart also, for some reason, she felt restless. Perhaps what I had said bothered her more than I anticipated. But my question remains the same... who was it? The door bell came alive, and Kate was about getting up to answer it but I stopped her. "Are we expecting visitors?". Her question made me realize we barely had visitors, not even one. So who's here at this hour? I opened up the door only for the air that came in to be intoxicated with exotic perfumes. My eyes fell upon three handsome figures in suit. Three of them were holding flowers and gifts in their hands. "Can I help you?" my voice cracked a bit. "I'm your daughter's father." All three men spoke in unison and my heart slammed against my chest as I heard them say. Is this some sort of prank?
