Silence settled heavily inside the penthouse after the intruder disappeared. Elena Hart stood frozen for a moment, heart pounding so hard it felt impossible to breathe. Every shadow now seemed alive, watching, waiting. Xavier DeLuca turned to her, his expression unreadable but intense. “You okay?” he asked, voice low, controlled, yet laced with concern. “I think so,” she whispered. Fingers trembled as adrenaline slowly faded. “That man… he knew my name.” Jaw tightened instantly. “That’s what worries me,” Xavier replied. Hand reached for her face, thumb brushing gently along her cheek. “You’re no longer invisible. Being close to me puts you in danger.” Her chest tightened. “Are you saying I should leave?” Eyes locked onto hers, dark and fierce. “I’m saying I won’t let anyone hurt you. But I won’t lie either—my world is ruthless. Once someone becomes a weakness, enemies use it.” Fear flickered briefly, but determination replaced it just as quickly. “I’m not running,” she said firmly. “Not from you. Not from this.” Something shifted in his gaze—pride, desire, something deeper. “You’re braver than you realize,” he murmured. “And that makes you even more dangerous to my enemies.” He guided her to the sofa, kneeling in front of her, hands resting on her knees. “From this moment forward, things change. Security will be tighter. You won’t go anywhere alone.” A soft exhale left her lips. “That sounds serious.” “It is,” he replied. “Because whoever sent that man is testing me. Testing us.” Her heartbeat slowed as she studied his face. Beneath the power and dominance stood a man carrying heavy burdens. “You don’t have to face it alone,” she said gently. His hands tightened slightly. “You have no idea what that offer means to me.” Emotion thickened the air between them. He leaned closer, foreheads touching, breath mingling. “Once I fully claim you, Elena, there’s no turning back.” Her pulse raced. “I already crossed that line.” A low chuckle escaped him, but his tone turned serious. “Good. Because I’m done pretending this is temporary.” A sudden buzz broke the moment. Xavier’s phone vibrated in his pocket. One glance at the screen darkened his expression. “What is it?” she asked. “Trouble,” he answered quietly. “And it’s closer than I expected.” Unease settled deep in her chest, but she refused to pull away. Whatever was coming, she knew one thing with certainty—her life was now tied to Xavier DeLuca’s, and danger was no longer a distant threat. It was standing at their door, waiting for the right moment to strike.
