I could feel the blood in my veins burning, its an immense heat.. the circle glew beneath me. whats happening? I look at the pages on the book, the symbols seemingly flying off the page as I read them.
" Vi ceshi kontu" I say " Amas. Erebi ni ketka. Syen miel vyravielfi, lon kyseneki..."
Wind began to rapidly circulate around me, a fire roaring to life from within the circle.
"jesh liec ton vi keorto ni ki.. Lyyz vogra .. anan.. friete.. Ashan no kodo friyn saras ni ki.. Gyrden"
And there he was... a large wolf like creature with three tails. His body was the size of a Tigers, his white and black exterior, part fur, part scale, shone in the fading firelight, his tails held tufts of fur on their tips but spikes all along the center. The creature was incredible.. and utterly breathtaking, as if you'd combined a wolf, a tiger, and a dragon into a single creature.
' you summoned me, mage?'
its voice rang out within my mind, echoing deep into even the most secluded of places my mind held.
"I did."
'and what is it that you desire?'
" to form a contract with you."
' yes, but why?' he asks ' for what purpose do you seek my power?'
I did not expect him to ask such a thing. perhaps theres more to this path than I had once thought.
' what is your purpose for living, mage?'
"My... purpose?"
' yes. there must be something weighing on you' he says ' for you to have called upon me as you have. what is it?'
I see. So what you summon can differ depending on your desires? I didnt know that. Then, what is it that caused me to summon this creature? for what purpose do I summon? could it be more than to see what I am capable of? could it go beyond trying to decide which path I should walk?
' what is it that you desire most, child?' he says ' is it passion? revenge? no. thats not it... If it were, I would not be here.'
He walks around me curiously, as if sizing me up for himself.
' what do you wish to achieve at this place?'
why am I here? thats easy..
" I want to find out what happened to my family" I reply "I want to know why they disappeared.. and where they went."
' ah, so it is truth you seek to uncover' he says ' you wish to solve that which has yet to be solved.. intriguing..'
"why is that important?"
'why, you ask?' he says ' because it explains why I am here, of course.. it emcompasses the bond we will soon share.'
he stops before me.. why do i get the feeling he is smiling right now?
' I shall accept your wish to make a contract with me' he says ' from this day forth, I shall aid you in all of your endeavors, share in your hardships, and defend you at all costs, such is the position of a familiar.'
" and its mage" I add
' then grant me a name, summoner, to carry from this day forth'
A name... thats right, I have to pick a name for him.. but what do I choose? what do I wish to achieve?
' you must use caution with choosing my name for it will decide our fate' he says ' choose wisely.'
He is to be my guide, my protector, my partner... his existence will complete me... and my desire is to uncover secrets of my past.
" Lady Solani, may I enter?"
the creature looks to the door then back to me, a look of disbelief on his face.
' you are from the house of Nightshade?' he asks
I found his distinction to be hilarious as this is an ironic thing indeed... a girl whose name literally translates to that of a deathly poison summoning a creature of the opposite cause.. wait, the opposite... my eyes widen as the thought hit me.
" I know what to call you." I say " ...Lirium."
' ah, for Antilirium, i take it.' he says ' the antidote for Nightshade.'
"yes."
' very well. from this day forth I shall be at your side, Lady Nightshade.'
" its Astella."
' Astella.'
Within moments, he disappeared and the doors open to reveal Enoch.
" have you found your path yet, your highness?"
"No."
The truth is, i've tried most every path being showcased at the academy... and i've succeeded at most of them, which doesn't make this any easier. Can i really find a path that catches my intrigue and aligns with my deepest desire?
" I need some air. i've been cooped up far too long"
I hurry from the room, heading outside but as I was walking down the garden path I noticed something off... all the way to the side there stood a hedge so overgrown with plants it felt ominous and out of place... and barely noticable beneath the vines was an archway.. what in the world? I hurry over to it, my curiousity winning out over my survival instict.
" is this?"
I reach through the overgrowth only to find a doorknob buried within its overgrowth. with no time to think it over, I turn the knob and enter through the gate into a section of the garden I had never seen before... and it was obvious just from looking at it that I wasn't the only one who ihadn't been here. This place had been left abandoned for a very long time, at least two centuries judging by the plantlife it was shrouded in.
" wow" I say
I haven't even been here a full week yet somehow I found a mysterious garden hidden away from others view. But, walking through this garden, wondering at the large plants and the crumbling ruins within its snuggled existence, I can't help but wonder what happened here and why it had been abandoned all together... this academy seems full of mysteries just waiting to be solved... and I cannot wait to get started. could this be it? Have I just stumbled upon My own path to walk?
