Chapter 65: No Turning Back

333 Words
Maria’s lips burned from Daniel’s kiss, but it wasn’t just the heat that had her dizzy—it was the way he’d claimed her like she was his most prized possession. She stepped back, gasping for air. “Daniel… you can’t—” “I can,” he interrupted, his voice low, almost a growl. “And I will. Don’t you get it, Maria? I’m done holding back.” Her heart thudded in her chest. This was not the Daniel she knew—the one who hid his feelings behind sarcasm and calm smiles. This Daniel was raw, dangerous, and far too tempting. “You’re scaring me,” she whispered. He took a slow step toward her. “Good. Maybe you’ll finally understand I’m not a man you can push away when it suits you.” Her back hit the wall, but she didn’t move. Daniel’s presence was overwhelming, intoxicating. She should have shoved him away, but her hands betrayed her—resting against his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart. “Maria,” he murmured, leaning so close their breaths mingled, “if you let me kiss you again, I’m not stopping.” A shiver ran through her. She opened her mouth to argue, but no words came. And then his lips were on hers again—harder, deeper, demanding. His hand slid to the small of her back, pulling her closer until she felt like she was melting into him. Her fingers curled into his shirt, not to push him away, but to keep him there. Every nerve in her body lit up like firecrackers. His scent, his warmth, the dangerous way he whispered her name between kisses—it all felt like too much and not enough at the same time. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a voice screamed that this was dangerous. That this was the point of no return. But another voice—the one that made her toes curl—whispered: don’t stop.
