Chapter 66: The Line We Closed

316 Words
Maria’s head was spinning, her lips tingling from the force of Daniel’s kiss. She had no idea when she’d stopped thinking and started feeling—when her hands had gone from resting cautiously on his chest to gripping his shirt like she couldn’t let go. “Daniel,” she breathed, trying to sound stern, but it came out like a plea. He brushed his thumb along her jawline, eyes dark and unreadable. “Say my name again.” “Daniel—” “Like you mean it.” Her breath hitched. There was something in his voice that wrapped around her like velvet, pulling her deeper into his orbit. She should have pushed him away. She should have told him this was wrong, that they were moving too fast, that she wasn’t ready. But instead, she stood there frozen, heat blooming in her chest, her pulse racing. “Tell me to stop,” he whispered. His lips hovered above hers, so close she could feel the warmth of his breath. “I… I can’t,” she admitted, almost in a whisper. That was all he needed. His mouth captured hers again, slow at first—teasing, almost torturous—before deepening into something desperate. The sound of their breathing filled the space between them, heavy and ragged. Maria felt her knees weaken. His hand slipped to her waist, holding her steady as if he knew she was close to collapsing. Every inch of him pressed against her was a reminder that this wasn’t just a kiss—it was a warning. When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against hers. “You can pretend all you want, Maria. But you feel this. Same as I do.” Her heart thumped painfully in her chest. “Daniel… we crossed a line.” He gave a faint, dangerous smile. “Then maybe we shouldn’t go back.”
