Chapter 28: Game On

235 Words
The next morning, the atmosphere was tense. Students whispered in hallways. Teachers noticed the shift. Something was definitely going on. And at the center of it all? Maria. She stepped into class wearing a simple white tee, fitted jeans, and her hair in a neat ponytail. But it wasn’t the outfit — it was her energy. Calm. Collected. Confident. Daniel tried to act normal, laughing loudly with Emeka, but every time Maria walked by without even a glance, his laugh faded. His friends noticed too. “She’s blanking you, bro,” Emeka said, raising a brow. “She’s not even trying to make you jealous. That’s scary.” But Daniel wasn’t used to being ignored. He tried cornering her after class. “Maria, we need to talk.” She looked at him, emotionless. “About what? The bet?” Her voice was calm, but it sliced like a blade. “I didn’t mean to hurt you—” “You didn’t. You gave me clarity,” she said, stepping past him. And just like that, she walked away. By break time, Maria’s new t****k video was trending on the school’s group chat. A slow-mo of her walking into school that morning. Caption? “This time, I’m the one in control.” Daniel stared at the video in silence. She was no longer his pawn. She was the queen — and this game had just begun.
