“Mind if I call dibs on the shower?” Riven asks, making me jump. I turn around, hiding the phone behind my back as if I were concealing a dirty little secret. My eyes immediately dart to his left hand—definitely no ring. Riven frowns. “Are you all right?” “Yes, sure, why wouldn’t I be all right?” “So, is it okay if I use the shower first?” “Yeah, yeah, no problem.” I shuffle past him and out of the bedroom. In the open-space living room, almost everyone has scattered. I sit back at the table where my plate is still waiting with a half-eaten slice of toast on top.
