After a while, Crishane left and quickly arrived at the new house that Lian had given them.
"Ate!" her siblings greeted her happily.
"Ate, our new house is so beautiful," Carl said.
"And so big!" Claire, their 10-year-old youngest, added.
Crishane could only smile. She couldn't speak. She felt both happy and painful inside.
"Nay, how are you feeling?" Crishane asked her mother.
"I'm okay now, anak," her mother answered happily.
"Thank goodness. How about Tatay?"
"The doctor said he is slowly getting better and will wake up soon, anak."
"That's good."
"Oh anak, you don't seem happy. Is there a problem?" her mother asked.
"Because Nay, tomorrow my boss will go to America to handle their business there, and I'm the one being asked to come along."
"Then that's good, you will finally set foot in America. But make sure you always call us, okay?"
"Yes, Nay," she answered and hugged her mother tightly.
They had a small celebration for their new life and new home.
To be continued...
"Take care there, okay? Always call," Aling Dena said.
"Yes, Ate, please visit my family sometimes," Crishane requested.
"Of course," Aling Dena replied.
A moment later, Lian came down and called Crishane.
"Crishane, are you ready?" he called.
"Yes, Sir," she answered and carried her bag.
Aling Dena walked her to the car and brought Lian's luggage.
"Take care, Sir. Please take care of Rish," Aling Dena pleaded.
"Yes, don't worry," Lian answered, and they got into the car.
After a while, they arrived at the airport and found Gian already waiting for them. Moments later, the airplane they were boarding was about to depart.
"Are you okay?" Lian asked, noticing Crishane seemed nervous. "Is this your first time riding an airplane?"
Crishane nodded.
When the plane started to take off, Lian kept looking at Crishane, watching to see if she would get sick. After a while, he was right, so he immediately stood up.
"Come, let's go to the restroom," Lian quickly helped Crishane to the restroom, and as soon as she entered, she vomited.
"Are you okay?" Lian asked when she came out.
"Ehm," she nodded, and they went back to their seats.
After a few hours, Crishane fell asleep. When Lian saw it, he gently held her head and let her head rest on his arm.
While Crishane was sleeping, Lian kept staring at her, thinking if he could really do what he was planning. After a while, he looked at her eyelashes, her nose, and her lips, and noticed Crishane had a different kind of beauty. A simple woman, but with a strange beauty that is rarely seen.
After a few hours, they arrived. When they got off the plane, Crishane was dizzy from looking around.
"Let's go," Lian said, pulling her luggage.
A while later, they arrived at the house, but there was a woman waiting at the door.
"What are you doing here?" Lian asked coldly.
"Your dad said you're coming here today, so I came early to see you, anak," she answered and hugged Lian. Lian just let her hug him, but it meant nothing to him.
"You can leave now," Lian replied.
Crishane was confused by how Lian treated his mother.
"Anak, don't you miss me?" Cristina, Lian's mother, said.
"Hi, Mom," Gian greeted as he just arrived and hugged his mother.
"Gian, anak, how are you?"
"I'm okay, Mom. Let's go inside," Gian said, pulling Cristina inside, while Lian went straight to his room.
While Gian and Cristina were talking, Crishane was watching them.
"Who is she?" Cristina asked.
"Ah, Kuya's maid, Crishane," Gian said.
"Crishane? Come here."
"What is it, Madam?"
"What is your last name?" Cristina asked, but Crishane couldn't answer because Lian came down and told his mother to leave.
"Gian, if you're not done talking, just go outside. And you, Crishane, please fix the kitchen and cook," Lian said.
"Yes, Sir," Crishane said and quickly went to the kitchen.
After a while of talking, Gian and Cristina left.
Later, they ate and rested because they arrived at night.
"Crishane, this is your room," Lian pointed, and he also entered his room.
---
The next morning, Crishane woke up early and cleaned the whole house, yard, and also cooked.
After a while, Gian came down.
"Sir, breakfast," Crishane said.
"Okay, thank you," Gian answered and sat down to eat.
Gian noticed Crishane had been looking at him for a while.
"Do you want to say something?"
"Ah, can I?"
"Of course, come sit here," Gian said.
"What will you say?"
"Is it about what you saw yesterday?"
"Ehm," she nodded.
"That's really how Kuya is. Since he was a kid, he's like that to Mom."
"But why?"
"Since his best friend died, he blamed Mom."
"Huh! Why?"
"Actually, I don't really know the whole story. Mom is the one who knows that."
"Why doesn't she come home here?"
"Because she has another house now. Mom had another family, but they separated. You mean she and Don Mart are already separated?"
"Yup, I was 5 years old then."
"So it's been a long time."
"They separated because of their parents' wishes. Mom and Dad got married but their parents disapproved, so Mom's parents made her marry someone else, while Dad just focused on his business."
"That's sad," Crishane said.
"Is gossiping included in breakfast?" Lian said while coming down. The two stopped and Crishane went to the kitchen.
Lian left early.
For a few days, Lian came home late because he was busy at work, while Gian was helping him, so Crishane was often the only one at home.
---
One day, Cristina went to Lian's house again.
"Ah, Madam, it's you," Crishane said.
"Can I come in?"
"Yes, Madam, Sir is not here yet."
"Okay, thank you," she sat down and Crishane gave her coffee.
"I wanted to check on Lian, but I can't talk to him, so I hope you can tell me."
"Sir is okay, Madam. He's just been very busy these past days," Crishane said.
"How about him and his wife?"
"Ah, Ma'am Bishel? They are okay, Madam."
"How does he treat you as his maid?"
"He's okay," Crishane said.
"I know you're not telling the truth," Cristina said.
"Huh?"
"I know my son, so as his mother, I hope you won't be shy to tell me."
"Ehm."
"Madam, sorry but you can't stay long here, because Sir told me not to let you in. You might get caught," Crishane said worriedly.
"Do you think he will scold you?"
"Ehm, yes po."
"Don't worry, I won't stay long. One of the reasons I came here is I wanted to meet you," Cristina said.
"Ah, is that so?"
"Your name won't leave my mind," Cristina said.
"Why po?"
"I love that name. I even told myself before that someday when I have a daughter, I will name her Crishane, but I only had sons," she said while smiling.
"Ehm, is that so?" Crishane said, smiling shyly.
"Okay, I'm leaving. By the way, can I visit you here when I have time?"
"Yes, Madam, no problem. I don't have anyone to talk to here anyway."
"Okay, bye."
"Take care," Crishane said.
She left, but Crishane couldn't stop thinking because it seemed she had seen that woman before, she just couldn't remember where and when.
After a while, Lian and Gian arrived and found Crishane sitting on the sofa, thinking.
"Sir," she said, standing up quickly.
"Why do you seem shocked?" Lian said.
"Nothing, Sir," Crishane said.
Lian noticed two glasses on the small table.
"Did you have a visitor?" Lian asked.
"Ah, huh? No," Crishane said.
"Since when did you learn to drink coffee with two glasses?"
Crishane couldn't answer and just remained silent.
Lian went upstairs and said, "If you do this again, you'll be in trouble."
While Gian stayed in the living room.
"Did Mom come here?" Gian asked.
"Yes," Crishane said.
"What did she say?"
"She was just asking how you are," Crishane replied.
