LILIAN P. O.V Ella walked in immediately after our father went inside. She sat angrily beside me, staring into space with frustration written all over her face. “Can you imagine that man?” she said bitterly. “He deliberately used the money. He used our last money to gamble. Now, what are we supposed to eat today?” I turned to her and sighed. “Maybe we can ask Sam. He might give us something.” Sam had been our childhood friend. We grew up together and attended the same school before his family relocated to another area. Whenever Ella and I were hungry, we often went to their house because Sam’s family was wealthy. They were an elite family with connections to politicians, and they had far more money than we did. Ella and I were about to leave and meet Sam when the door suddenly burst open. A strange woman stepped inside and looked around. “Where is Mr. Diego?” she demanded. I stood up quickly and looked at Ella. At the same time, she looked at me, both of us confused. “Um… what business do you have with Mr. Diego?” Ella asked nervously. The woman glared at her. “That is none of your business! Where is Mr. Diego?” Just then, Dad came out of the doorway and froze when he saw her. “Mr. Diego, where is my money?” the woman demanded. Dad stared at Ella and me, completely speechless. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. Suddenly, the woman’s eyes landed on the golden vase sitting on the table. It was the beautiful vase Sam’s father had given us during his anniversary celebration. Ella had always protected it from Dad whenever he wanted to sell it. The woman smiled, walked over, and picked it up. “I’ll take this as collateral. When you have my money, come and collect it.” She walked toward the door, then turned around. “Or else, I’m selling it.” She slammed the door. “Dad, again?” Ella screamed. To Be Continued
