Chapter 2:SecretsandLies

1012 Words
Serena held her neck as she tried in futility to gasp for breath. Her mind raced in those final moments. She thought of Evans and the dreams they had shared, the promises they had made to each other, how much he had once loved her. She thought about Mira, her best friend who she thought of as a sister. They had betrayed her in the worst possible way, she was naive, she was weak, she was harmless, and she had paid the ultimate price for it. She wished she could make them pay for what they did to her; she wished she could exact revenge on them; she wished she were stronger. Tears streamed down her face as she took her last breath, the pain and betrayal too much to bear. Her world turned dark. Evan and Mira stood silently over her lifeless body, grappling with the reality of what they had just done. "We have to get rid of her body," Evan said, his voice breaking the silence. "No one can ever know what happened here." Mira nodded, still numb with shock. Evan could hear her hands trembling “You have to snap out of it, Mira; it is done. Weren't you the one who wanted her gone? You are now the Luna of the pack, so show strength.” Mira tried to compose herself, this was her idea, so why was she feeling so guilty? They worked quickly, wrapping Serena’s body in the blankets and carrying her out through a hidden passage in the basement. They carried Serena's body through the forest at night and found a grave they had earlier dug. They lowered Serena’s body into the ground, covering her with earth and leaves until there was no trace left. "Evan, what if someone finds out? What if someone comes looking for her? What do we say?” "They won’t," Evan said, his voice firm. "We’ll tell the pack she left. She couldn’t handle the pressure and ran away. No one will question it. Everyone knows she was weak.” Mira gave an unconvincing nod. “Let's leave before someone notices us,” Evan said as they turned around and started making their way back to the house. Back in the basement, Evan cleaned up the evidence of the murder, wiping away any trace of the wolfsbane and getting rid of the syringe. At dawn, the pack gathered for their customary morning meeting. Evan and Mira had crafted a lie to tell the pack regarding Serena's disappearance. They wore their best expression to avoid raising any suspicion. I have some difficult news," he began, "Serena has left us. She was struggling with her role and responsibilities as Luna and decided she needed to leave. She didn’t say where she was going, but she asked us to respect her decision." The pack murmured in confusion. Serena had always been loyal and dedicated to the pack. She had always loved the pack. Her sudden departure didn’t make sense. One of the pack members, a young wolf named Alex, stepped forward. "Are you sure, Alpha? Serena never seemed unhappy. She was always so dedicated to us." Evan’s eyes hardened. " Are you doubting your Alpha?” Evan growled.” “No, I just mean..meant..” Alex stuttered I understand this is a shock, Alex. But we must respect Serena’s wishes. She made her decision, and we have to move forward." Evan said, with an air of finality. The pack fell silent, accepting their alpha’s words with reluctance. As the meeting ended and the wolves dispersed, Evan and Mira exchanged a glance and nodded. They had managed to convince the pack that Serena left of her own accord. Or so they thought. As the days went by, life in the Silver Moon Pack returned to normal Evan and Mira worked tirelessly to maintain their facade. They knew they couldn't be seen to be intimate or some members of the pack would begin to be suspicious. One night, as Mira lay in bed, she had a terrible nightmare, she was haunted by dreams of Serena. In her dreams, Serena was chasing her through the forest while repeating the words, “I will get my revenge.”. Mira woke in a cold sweat, her heart pounding. One evening, as Evan and Mira sat in the living room, they heard a loud knock on the door. Evan frowned and got up to answer the door. Mira watched, feeling some tinge of nerves. Evan opened the door to find a stranger standing on the porch. The man was tall and imposing with sharp and cold blue eyes. "Can I help you?" Evan asked, his voice was wary. "I’m looking for Serena." The stranger said as he stepped forward. Evan noticed his eyes scanning the house and his heart skipped a beat. “Serena is no longer here. She left the pack and no one knows where she went.” Evan was trying to stay composed. The stranger’s eyes narrowed. "Is that so? Because I’ve been tracking her, and her trail ends here." Mira’s blood ran cold. Who was this man, and how did he know about Serena? Evan forced a smile, trying his best to remain composed. "I’m sorry, but you must be mistaken. Serena is gone. The stranger stepped closer, he had a menacing aura"I don’t think I am. Until I get the truth about what happened to her, I won't be going." Evan felt a flash of panic. He wondered who this man was. No one has ever made him feel fear. "I told you, she left.” The stranger looked intensely at Evan and without uttering a word, he turned around and walked away, leaving Evan and Mira standing in the doorway, their hearts pounding with fear. As the stranger vanished into the night, Mira turned to Evan. "What are we going to do? He knows something." Her voice was quivering. Evan’s face was pale, his eyes filled with dread. "I don’t know. But we can’t let him find out the truth.”
