Chapter 3:
Rosalba's view
I woke up from a deep sleep and my head aches like some sort of pounding is going on up there.
My eyeballs wandered around the room trying to access where I am and what has happened.
The pungent smell of drugs and soft digging of the thermometer helped me process the information from my almost hazy brain that I was in the park hospital.
I've never liked the smell of the hospital and the drugs that smell around it since I was a kid and I had always done everything to avoid visiting there.
“You are awake” Eric muttered while grabbing my hand. I had been awake for some while now but I didn't even notice someone was seated beside my bed bunk. I slowly turn my head towards his way while gazing at him with a dead look.
“What happened to me?” I uttered with a very low voice like a whisper then paused to catch some breath “Why am I here?”
“Does that really matter now, you have to get better first” Eric blurted without giving a clue “Let me go get the doctor” he added while trying to stand up.
I held his hand tighter to stop him “wait” I mumbled with my last strength “I remem…I remembered Lucas…” I stuttered and stopped because…
“Yeah. Lucas and his friends brought you home after you slumped and passed out at the recreation center, so we had to bring you here” Eric interrupted with his eyeballs glaring pitifully “You will be fine sis. I think I need to go tell the doctor that you're awake”
I couldn't even argue with him that Lucas caused all this to happen. My body feels so weak right now, maybe when I'm fine I would let the cat out of the bag. That black cat shouldn't think he would get away with it.
“Hello Rosalba, I hope you are fine now” Doctor Nora called out, nudging me softly and I jerked out of my thoughts. I had not noticed her presence alongside Eric since they came in.
I nodded and my head slightly banged again causing me to let out a groan.
“I know you feel frequent headaches. This is because you are suffering from concussion due to the impact of the floor on your head when you slumped” Doctor Nora uttered after which she inscribed some words into a big book pad she held. “You will be fine” she added and then took a walk with Eric to the entrance door.
I look so frightful because what the heck is concussion and for how long will I continue to get my head pounded like a mortal. I also tried to eavesdrop Eric and Dr Nora's conversation but it was futile and all I could hear was that I would be discharge any moment from now
Just that my body is so weak and the frequent headaches up in my tiny head, I really do not feel ill.
It's evening already and I'm just getting a little bit stronger after consuming 5 energy booster packs. I and Eric then headed to the park house after my discharge. Even though I had taken so many energy drinks, I still had to lean on Eric for support as we walked home.
The park royal house was silent and so cold, one can discern from outside that no one is home. I guess everyone must have gone out since noon considering that the inside was quite dark with no light on.
I headed straight to my room and collapsed on the bed hoping to get better by morning. I heard Eric say if I needed anything I could call on him.
“I will be fine” I retorted, my voice came out rapsy.
As soon as I heard Eric's footsteps diverging from my doorstep, I pinned my face against the pillow and sobbed uncontrollably. The memory of Lucas and his clique ruining my beautiful day came flashing through my mind.
Though I felt a little bit disappointed that Alpha Pella and Luna Cosey were not home, I had planned to report Lucas mischievous as soon as I got home. But he seems to get away with it today, I guess the devil cares for his own people too.
The shrill sound of the alarm pierced the silence of my room, jotting me out of my shuteye. With a groan, I reached out and fumbled for the snooze button, struggling to open my eyes against the assault of the morning light.
I managed to gaze at the wall clock opposite my bed stand to check the time. Seeing it, my eyes snapped open and I bolted upright realizing the time was past 7am and I was already late for school. I must have slept so deep to have missed the first alarm at 6am, I couldn't blame myself for it as I was so tired last night.
Frantically, I scrambled out of the bed and threw on my uniform knowing well that I must make it up to school today or I would miss an important test.
I headed down to the dining room as I picked up some loaves of bread meant for breakfast into my bag-pack and rushed out.
I could hear Luna Cosey trying to stop me to have some cream cheese along with me but I wouldn't even want to take one step backward anymore. “I'm fine” I yelled at her and kept running.
There was total decorum in the school vicinity and it appears as if there were no students in school today. I knew the school activities for the day had commenced as I rushed through the towering trees.
I couldn't follow through the school gate to avoid being punished by our nosy headmaster who is always at the school gate to make a tough time for late-comers, so I had to follow through the school jungle.
As I walked through the empty classrooms at the school's phase 3, I began to discern an amazing smell that smells so much better than I have ever known. It smells like spicy cologne coupled with pine trees and it keeps getting stronger as I approach the last class in the abandoned building.
“Mate, Mate, Mate” I heard a tiny voice say from within me and immediately a smile spread across my face effortlessly. I couldn't even ponder on the strange voice as I was humming a cheerful tone and my mind was buzzing with newfound energy.
Suddenly in a jiffy, a grip tightens around my waist, pulling me into the empty Art classroom as I stumble after him. My body aroused and I felt a lighting tingles in my wrist as we got in contact. The tiny voice I heard earlier came ruminating my mind again but this time was louder and sharp.
I had no doubt that it was my mate who just dragged me and with joy overwhelmed in my heart, I turned all the way towards him and looked up into his eyes just to have my happiness shattered like a fragile glass.
“No…No…No way” I mumbled, my breath catching in my throat as I struggled to compose myself.
