CHAPTER 14 AFTER CINDY GOT OFF the plane in San Francisco, she went into the first restroom she could find. She looked in the mirror, trying to decide whether to leave the nose brace on or not. After a few moments she decided she had better leave it on. Out she went, heading straight to Passport Control. As she got closer to the head of the line, she could see San Francisco now used an automated system to go through before getting to the officer. She was getting more and more nervous as she watched others first put their passport into the kiosk and then bend down a little to have it take their picture. She thought, I should have taken off the nose brace. There is no way I am not getting pulled out for questioning—the picture will never come close to matching the photo in my passport. Nex
