Tears Of An African Child

EPISODE 10

ONE MORE HURDLE, as we got to the next check point, i started shivering, feeling cold,headache,nausea, flue, all malaria symptoms, i started having them, i prayed to God to let me pass this one hurdle remaining, as our vehicle came to a halt the fiery looking police men where busy searching other vehicles, i hid the parcel in the man's bag and pretended to be asleep, in less than 10 minutes it was our turn to be searched. everybody came down the police men started searching everybody one after the other, and if you refused to be searched you will either be kicked,beaten or tortured till you succumb. i watched as they beat a young man till he began to behave like a lunatic, i feared for what could befall the man i put the parcel in his bag, after they finished searching others it was remaining 5 of us the hausa man sitting beside me went to meet their superior in the vehicle he was sitting exchanged pleasantries with him and in a flash he called his boys and asked them to leave our vehicle to go, by then it was remaining just one person before its my turn to be searched as i heard the order i felt relieved, i felt so much uneasiness in my tummy as it was rumbling as if the second world war was going on in there, i managed to enter the bus and breathed heavily.

I got my parcel out before the man sitting besides me came in, he looked at me and asked me what the problem was, i just raised my face looked at him and bowed my head, without saying a word, our journey then began and he man told me it will take me about an hour and fifteen minutes to get to my destination and that i will have to sleep over and continue my journey the next day, if i don't want to fall sick, i thanked him for his help, as we were discussing a call came in, i checked my phone it was my boss James that was calling, i picked the call and narrated my experience to him, he laughed at me and told me to be strong, that since i have crossed those two check points that i have no problem, he promised to give me something special when i come back,i thanked him and dropped the call, at exactly 7;06 pm our vehicle entered the park and announced this is our final destination, i called the person i was to deliver the goods to he sent me an address and asked me to enter a taxi coming to the place, i got a taxi and we headed to the place written on the address. After 30 minutes plus the vehicle stopped in front of  a mansion, i confirmed the address and paid the cab man, i called the number to notify him i was at the gate, soon three hefty looking men came out of the building and asked me to come in, as i entered the compound, i was asked to stop a thorough search was made and they found i wasn't with any weapon they took me upstairs to their boss.

I greeted him and told him who sent me, he looked at me and asked me to come and sit besides him, he told me a lot of stories ranging from how he met my boss and how they started doing business till date, i dropped the parcel he called one of the boys to take it in and then he put a call across to my boss to tell him i was around, he then made a transfer to his account and he told me he has enough room to sleep in his house and that i can sleep and the he will book a flight to take me down to the east the next day, that my boss told him i used road transport and that he was not happy about that, i later found out he was a retired general in the Nigerian army, with his kids abroad and just him living in Nigeria since his wife died, though he goes for vacations to different cities in Europe and other continents. i thanked him for his hospitality, he called his maid and and asked her to serve me any thing i want, i made my demands and she told me it will be served in my room in thirty minutes, i agreed, entered my room, went into the shower to take my bath, after bathing, i sat down turned on the television, and got dressed in my pyjamas sat on the sofa, soon the maid brought my food, but was looking at me somehow, i asked she was looking at me like that, she said i was so cute that out of all the guys who have been around to drop a parcel for her boss that am the cutest, she asked me not to lock my door that when she is done with her duties that she will come in to have a word with me, she asked of my contact, i gave her and we discussed a little before she asked to leave so i can eat my food.

I ate my food peacefully, soon the general knocked on my door i asked the person knocking to come in hoping it was the young lady, then i saw the General, i rushed to the door opened it properly and greeted him, he sat down on my bed and we had a little discussion, he asked if i was okay and i said yes, but then i asked him if i could spend at least a day before going, he accepted and told me i was welcome to stay as much as i want before going back, but that i should inform him on time so he can book my flight for me anytime i am ready, now i have more time to spend in this house, i need to know who this young lady was and what she wants from me.
