Sarah's expression turned serious. 'That sounds really scary, Em. Do you want to talk about it more?'
Emma nodded, feeling a sense of relief at finally sharing her fears with someone. 'Yeah, I think I do.""Emma hesitated, wanting to share more, but her gaze drifted to her watch. She was already running late for work. 'I'm so sorry, Sarah, but I have to dash. I'll tell you all about it later, I promise.'
Sarah nodded understandingly. 'No worries, Em. Go, go! We'll catch up later. I'll take good care of Luna.'
Emma smiled gratefully and gave Sarah a quick hug. 'Thanks, Sar. You're a lifesaver.'
With that, Emma rushed off to work, her mind still reeling from the dream and her growing sense of unease. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off, like she was living in a fog that she couldn't clear.
As she arrived at the office, Emma's colleagues greeted her with their usual chatter, but she just smiled and nodded, her mind elsewhere. She couldn't wait to finish the day and head back to Sarah's place, where she could finally unburden herself and try to make sense of the strange happenings in her life."
"Emma tried to sneak into her personal workspace without drawing attention to herself, hoping to avoid a run-in with her boss. But as she turned the corner, she saw a familiar foot propped up on the desk. She followed the foot up to the leg, and then to the face, and her heart sank. It was her boss, Ms. Johnson, and she looked none too pleased.
'Ah, Emma, late again, I see,' Ms. Johnson said, her voice stern but with a hint of amusement. 'Care to explain why you're strolling in at 9:30?'
Emma felt her face heat up as she mumbled an apology, trying to come up with a valid excuse. But Ms. Johnson waved her hand dismissively.
'Never mind, Emma. I'm not fond of lecturing, and I know you're not fond of receiving them. Just try to be on time tomorrow, okay?'
Emma breathed a sigh of relief as Ms. Johnson turned back to her work, seemingly dismissing the issue. But as Emma settled into her own workspace, she couldn't shake off the feeling that her boss was watching her, waiting for her to slip up again.
Despite the rocky start to the day, Emma tried to focus on her work, but her mind kept wandering back to the dream, and the strange feeling of disconnection that lingered long after she woke up. She couldn't wait to talk to Sarah about it later, hoping that her friend could offer some insight into what was going on."
"Emma's eyes were glued to her computer screen as she poured over the latest sales reports, trying to make sense of the numbers. She was so focused that she didn't even notice the time flying by, until her junior worker, Alex, poked his head into her office.
'Hey, Emma, it's lunchtime,' Alex said, trying to stifle a grin. 'You've been at it for hours. Don't you think you should take a break?'
Emma blinked, surprised, and looked up at the clock on her wall. 12:45 PM. She couldn't believe it. She had been working non-stop since 9:40 AM.
'Oh, wow,' Emma said, rubbing her tired eyes. 'I didn't realize it was so late. Thanks for reminding me, Alex.'
Alex nodded and handed her a folder. 'I took the liberty of getting you a sandwich from the café downstairs. I figured you'd need some fuel to get through the rest of the day.'
Emma smiled, grateful for Alex's thoughtfulness. 'Thanks, Alex. You're a lifesaver.'
As she took a bite of her sandwich, Emma realized that she had been so caught up in her work that she had forgotten to eat breakfast. No wonder she was feeling so drained.
Despite the break, Emma knew she had to keep pushing through. She had a meeting with the marketing team at 2 PM to discuss the new campaign, and she still had to finalize the presentation. She sighed, feeling the weight of her responsibilities bearing down on her."
"Emma got up from her desk, stretching her arms over her head. 'I need a coffee refill,' she said to Alex. 'Want to join me?'
Alex nodded, and together they walked to the office coffee machine. As they waited in line, Emma asked Alex about his day so far.
'Not bad,' Alex replied. 'Just trying to keep up with the workload. But I did get a chance to work on that project I've been putting off, so that's a plus.'
Emma smiled. 'Glad to hear that. You know, I'm starting to think we're both workaholics.'
Alex chuckled. 'Guilty as charged.'
When it was their turn to order, Emma asked for a latte, and Alex requested a cappuccino. Then, he turned to Emma and said, 'Oh, and can I get a snack and an Americano for Rachel? She's been craving something all morning.'
Emma raised an eyebrow. 'You're a saint, Alex. I don't know how you keep up with everyone's orders.'
Alex shrugged. 'It's all part of being a junior worker, right?'
As they waited for their drinks, Emma couldn't help but feel grateful for Alex's help and support. He was always willing to lend a hand, and his positive attitude was infectious.
"Emma walked back to the office, lost in thought. Her mind was still reeling from the dream, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. She didn't even notice the car approaching until it honked loudly, making her jump.
In her startled state, Emma accidentally poured the hot coffee all over her shirt and pants. She gasped in shock, feeling the scalding liquid seep into her skin.
The driver, a middle-aged man with a scowl on his face, leaned out of the window. 'Watch where you're going, lady!' he yelled. 'You're not the only one on the road!'
Emma stood frozen, her eyes wide with embarrassment. She couldn't believe what had just happened. Alex, who was walking beside her, quickly grabbed some napkins from his bag and started to help her clean up the spill.
'I'm so sorry, Emma,' Alex said, trying to stifle a laugh. 'Are you okay?'
Emma nodded, still in shock. 'Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little...distracted.'
The driver, still grumbling, drove off, leaving Emma and Alex standing on the sidewalk. Emma couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation.
'Well, that was a great way to continue the day,' Emma said, shaking her head."
"Emma handed the coffee to Alex and told him to go ahead to the office. 'I'll be fine, Alex. I just need to clean up a bit. You go on, don't worry about me.'
Alex looked concerned, but Emma reassured him with a smile. 'Really, I'm okay. Just a little clumsy today.'
With that, Emma made her way to the nearest public toilet, hoping to clean up the coffee stain. She knew it wouldn't come out totally, but she wanted to try and salvage her outfit.
As she entered the toilet, Emma caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and couldn't help but laugh. Her shirt and pants were stained, and her hair was disheveled. She looked like she had just been through a war.
Emma tried to clean up as best she could, using paper towels and soap to blot the stain. She also tried to smooth out her hair, but it was still a bit messy.
"Emma was scrubbing at the stain on her shirt when suddenly, a man walked into the bathroom. She let out a startled yelp and spun around, her eyes wide with shock.
'What are you doing here?' Emma demanded, trying to hide her embarrassment. 'This is the women's bathroom!'
The man looked just as startled as Emma, and he held up his hands in defense. 'I'm so sorry, I thought this was the men's room!'
Emma's face turned bright red as she realized her mistake. She quickly glanced around and saw the urinals and realized she was indeed in the men's bathroom.
Mortified, Emma turned and dashed out of the bathroom without looking back. She could hear the man's apologetic calls behind her, but she didn't stop until she reached the safety of her office.
Breathless and flustered, Emma tried to compose herself as she prepared for her presentation. She couldn't believe what had just happened. First, she spills coffee all over herself, and then she accidentally enters the men's bathroom. This day was definitely not going as planned."
After the presentation, Emma's boss called her into his office. "Emma, I thought you'd do better than this," he said, his voice tinged with disappointment. "You seemed a bit off today. Is everything okay? Anything on your mind?"
Emma hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She didn't want to reveal her chaotic morning, so she lied. "No, everything's fine. Just a bit tired, that's all."
Her boss nodded, seemingly accepting her explanation. Emma left his office, relieved, and headed back to her desk to gather her things. As she reached for her ID badge, her heart sank. It wasn't there.
She patted down her pockets, but it was nowhere to be found. Then, she remembered the men's toilet incident earlier. She had taken off her ID badge and placed it on the counter, along with her credit card and other important cards. In her haste to escape the embarrassing situation, she had left them all behind.
Panic set in as Emma realized the gravity of her mistake. Her ID, credit card, and other vital cards were all gone, left in a public toilet. She couldn't believe her carelessness.
