Beth walked from the counter and out to the waiting Chevy Impala she had rented. She slipped her suitcase in the back seat and climbed into the car, started the ignition and headed for the exit. She smiled as she considered that all was going according to plan and Paul would be waiting for her at the house in the southern Portland suburb of West Linn. She had a forty-five-minute drive to complete her journey, and then she would be Karen Shaw in her new habitat, far away from mercenaries who wanted to get to them and a dogged detective who was determined to make a homicide case against her and Chris.
