Chapter 25The faster Lyne sought to escape the lights, the more the murky slime splashed up her ankles. Tentacles wormed out of the slime, and wrapped around her skin, sending a tingling through her body like an electric charge. She bit back a cry and shook them off; they flew up and latched onto her arms. The lights caught up and a long-nailed claw grabbed her by the wrist. “Stop running, silly girl,” Lady Cockerell barked. “I can hold off the Mistress.” She bared her teeth. “For a while. Until I’ve brought you to the altar and your Beast has broken you.” The tentacles loosened their hold. She rubbed off the slime on her free hand onto her skirt, furiously trying to think of a way out of the witch’s hold. The sticky matter only spread further, through her skirt and onto her skin. She
