Chapter 6 The pack comes first

Nina's pov: Nico left the castle about an hour ago and father and the warriors are just getting back. Father's beta Terrance knocks on my door. “Your majesty your father would like to meet with you in his office immediately. “ He said. “ I'll be right there “ I responded. I took a quick look in the mirror making sure father wouldn't be able to see my mark thankfully it was low enough to cover up and masked my sent with a little bit of oil so he wouldn’t question it. I then rush to Father's office and find him sitting at his desk. “ You wanted to see me father” I said standing beside him. “ Sit down Nina it's going to be awhile I have a few things to go over with you “ He said motioning to the open chair at the front of his desk. I took the seat and nodded to him to proceed. “ As you know I've had you study the pack rules and laws along with your curriculum …this is because in a few years once you've taken a husband you will run this manor as queen and I'd like for you to be prepared for the job. “ Yes father I am aware” I responded. “ Yes, well in light of the subject I've had my men gather up information and make files for you .” He said sliding a stack of folders across the desk to my side. “ These files have all the available and beneficial bachelor's around your age listed. Each with a wide description,pictures and even an entire page describing how marrying them would benefit our pack in any way shape or form.” He said unbothered.

Silence fell over the room . “Father, “ I say hesitantly. “ What would happen if I were to find my mate and he is not a prince or of an alpha blood line hypothetically?” I said fidgeting my fingers. “ In that case you would have to reject your mate. The pack comes first in all matters and anyone who is not royalty is not worthy of you or this pack “ he said in an angry and stern tone. My heart hurts hearing my father's words so I quickly gather the folders and leave “ if that is all father” I say before closing the door behind me.

I couldn't believe the conversation that just unfolded. “ Reject my mate” do I not have a say so in my own love life. I don't care if it's for the pack there is no way in hell that I will reject Nico. I don't understand why I even have to be married to run the pack. My father's been the alpha for eight years alone ,and there have been plenty of alpha females in the past throughout the wolf community. The whole situation is entirely too frustrating. I'll just need to think of a way to make my father reconsider.

I said to myself as I made my way back to my room fuming with the thought of my father’s words.
