"Thank you, Ava," Lily said earnestly as they settled down at the small table in her cluttered studio. "I don't know what I'd do without you." Ava waved away the gratitude with a flourish, though her eyes shone with warmth. "Nonsense! We're best friends, remember? I'll always have your back." Lily took a bite of the sandwich Ava had prepared and couldn't help but smile. She knew Ava's support went beyond friendship – it was her generosity that had helped keep the lights on and the rent paid during the lean times. "Still," she insisted between mouthfuls, "you've done so much for me, both emotionally and financially. It means the world to me." "Hey, that's what friends are for, right?" Ava replied, her gaze never leaving Lily's face. "Besides, I believe in you and your art. One day, everyone else will see what I see." "Sometimes, I think you believe in me more than I do," Lily admitted, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "Then I'll just have to believe enough for both of us." Ava grinned, reaching across the table to give Lily's hand a reassuring squeeze. As they finished their meal, the sounds of the bustling city streets below began to filter through the open window – car horns honking, sirens wailing, and the distant murmur of conversations. The cacophony served as a reminder of the vibrant life outside her studio, and Lily couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of determination. She would make it as an artist; she would prove herself to the world and repay Ava's unwavering faith in her. "Alright," Lily announced, standing up and stretching her arms above her head. "Time to get back to work. You, my dear, have earned a break." "Are you sure? I can help you clean up," Ava offered, her eyes flitting to the remnants of their meal. "Positive." Lily flashed a grateful smile. "I'm just going to pack up my things and head home to my apartment complex. It's been a long day." "Alright, if you insist." Ava raised her hands in defeat, then impulsively darted forward for a quick hug. "Call me later?" "Promise." Lily returned the embrace, warmth flooding her chest as she thought of her best friend's unwavering support. With that, they parted ways, and Lily made her way out of the studio and onto the bustling city streets. The chaotic symphony of car horns and sirens surrounded her, invigorating her senses as she navigated the crowded sidewalks. Her thoughts drifted to her art, to the hurdles she'd overcome, and to the indomitable spirit of her best friend, who had never once doubted her potential. As the sun began to sink below the horizon, casting long shadows across the pavement, Lily felt more determined than ever to prove herself – not just to the world, but to herself as well. And with Ava by her side, she knew she could do anything.
