“WOAH! OMIGOSH! Where the heck are we?” Charlie cried out, observing his surroundings. It certainly looked far away from the city of Glasgow.
“We’re in one of my stories, Charles,” Fabian answered gleefully. “We got sucked into my notebook. I’d like to call it my very own Portkey.”
“A what?”
“A Portkey! It’s something from Harry Potter. It’s an enchanted object that transports you to another location magically when you touch it.”
Charlie thought for a moment. “But I didn’t touch your notebook.”
“But I was touching it, and you were holding on to me, so naturally you got transported, too.”
“So where are we now?”
“We are in the Land of Knobbs. This is the first story I ever wrote. All the people who have picked on me are called Knobbs and they live here and they all have ugly noses and crooked teeth.”
Charlie snorted, then he chuckled, then he burst out laughing. Fabian looked at him. “What’s so funny?”
Charlie wiped his tears away with his sleeve. “This place…… Knobbs. You DO know that’s a slang for p*****s, right?”
“Yeah, well, I added an extra B to it to make it different. Well, I gotta be creative, right?”
“So the people who picked on you are literal d***s in this story, as their name suggests, right?” Charlie asked, holding back another laugh.
“Rightfully so!” Fabian puffed out his chest and exclaimed proudly.
Charlie laughed some more, but suddenly stopped. “Any bad guys in this story? Any monsters, ghosts, demons, werewolves, or anything that might hurt us?”
“All the people who live in the Land of Knobbs are the bad guys,” Fabian explained, pointing to the city below them. “They are creatures who are similar to humans but not quite like humans.”
“Why’s that?”
“I’ve always thought bullies have come from another planet where its inhabitants don’t know how to respect normal humans.”
Charlie looked at the dull, grey city from the grassy hill where they stood on. “Is it safe to check out their city?”
“Sure! The characters can’t see the writers and their friends whenever they enter their world. They can’t see or touch us. They can just run right through us without feeling anything, so it’s fine.”
“Cool! Let’s go check ‘em out.”
“I’m ready when you are!”
And slowly, the two boys make their way down the hill into the City of Knobbs.
