Chapter Nine Pierce followed Viviane off the lonely road and down a graveled path. He hadn’t seen any houses or other signs of life for the last ten minutes that they walked. It had been ten minutes spent mostly in silence. He’d tried to make small talk with Viviane. She offered single-syllable answers. Or she trailed off mid-response.
