Dad Beans (A.K.A. Fabada) 1 bag of Great Northern beans (abas) 1 medium sweet or yellow onion, peeled and diced 3 carrots, peeled and sliced 1 half pound of cooked hamburger 1 tsp salt ½ tsp garlic powder Dash of ground pepper A touch of brown sugar Crumbled, cooked bacon Wash beans. Soak in fresh water overnight in a 5-quart pot. Drain. Cover beans with 2 quarts of water. Bring to a slow boil. Skim off the starch foam that appears. Add meats and veggies. Return to slow boil and reduce heat to a low simmer. Simmer for 4 to 6 hours, stirring every 15 minutes. Add water as necessary to maintain water level. Be careful not to let the beans stick to the bottom. Before serving, adjust seasonings to taste and serve with French bread and butter. Freeze leftovers. THE END
