The storm traps them inside the greenhouse. Adrian tends to a small cut on her hand after the broken glass catches her skin. His touch is careful, almost reverent, contrasting with his dangerous reputation. Their conversation deepens as she presses him about the years she can't remember. He tells her he learned every version of her-the one before the accident and the woman she's become. She accuses him of obsession."I know," he says. "And you're not ashamed?" "No."The honesty unsettles her more than any lie could.As he wraps the bandage around her hand, she tries to pull away."Gently," he murmurs. She looks up."Good girl." The words shouldn't affect her. Yet something in his soft voice makes her pulse skip.She hates that it does. Outside, footsteps crunch through wet gravel. Someone is searching the greenhouse. Adrian immediately pulls her behind an old stone pillar, shielding her body with his own.They're impossibly close. She can hear his breathing.Feel the warmth radiating from him despite the cold rain. For several endless seconds neither of them speaks. "I should move," she whispers. "You could." "But?" "I don't want you to."Neither does she. The footsteps pass. Neither of them notices they haven't stepped apart. Fear began in my head .
