Prologue

“We are pregnant,” said Alexa, her wolf. She thought she heard wrong, but did she? Is it possible for  a wolf to go insane?

“Alexa, what are you talking about, no this can’t be,” she said horribly.

“It’s true, I am one and a hundred percent sure,” said Alexa.

“Alexa, this can’t be, no, this can’t be, I am pregnant with a stranger's baby? No,” she said, disbelieved.

She ran out of the house and entered human territory and took a pregnancy test strip.

Walking back to the pack house was the toughest thing she ever did. She rushed to her bedroom and locked herself. With shaking hands she did the check and, much to her horror, it was indeed positive.

“No, this can’t be, No, no, Alpha will kill me,” she said and fell down and started crying.

“I can keep it covered for a while, but not so long. After a week, they are able to hear the heartbeat. We have to think about something,” said Alexa, her inner wolf.

She was shaking with panic.

“Hey, relax, you're gonna hurt our pup,” said Alexa.

“And Alpha will hurt us,” she said, afraid. “If he found that we had shagged with some wolf in the woods that night, everything would be ruined. What would we do? He will kill us,” she said.

“No, we have to leave, we have to leave this pack if we want our pups saved,” said Alexa.

She thought for a while and then the door knocked. She got up, afraid.

“Relax, they won’t be able to hear the heartbeat now,” said Alexa.

She took a deep breath and unruffled herself and walked towards the door.

The upcoming Beta and her best friend Selena were at the door.

“Hey,” she said, crying hard to calm herself.

“Where have you been? I have been looking for you since morning,” said Selena while getting in.

“What happened?” she asked.

“Ember, are you for real? You don’t know a single thing about this pack?” said Selena, slightly shocked.

“Father always keeps me away from pack matters, do you think I would know?” she asked, expressionlessly.

“Silly, Alpha Nathan is coming,” she said and she almost gasped.

Selena gave her a mischievous sigh.

“I know Alpha Nathan is hot, but that does not mean he will make you breathless at the thoughts of his arrival,” said Selena.

“It’s not like that,” Ember said, looking away.

“He is your fiancée and you are the luckiest person in the pack because he is your mate,” said Selena.

“Mate? Selena, how many times should I tell you, we are not mates and we are engaged only because my father thinks he needs a male heir for the pack. He put me in the forced reunion,” she said, frustrated. She knows that she is in huge trouble now.

“You are not 18 yet. That’s why your wolf has not discovered him as your mate, but he is already 18. It happens, don’t worry, when you turn 18 your wolf will recognize him as your mate,” said Selena.

“Come on Selena, it does not work like that, you know it. If wolves find their mate they will eventually know from both sides,” said Ember, annoyed.

“But your case is different. You are not an ordinary wolf, your bloodline is not an ordinary line. We are Time Wolves.. You know there has never ever in our kind a female Alpha born before. You are the first female Alpha born. Maybe in your case it happens, who knows,” said Selena.

Ember rolled her eyes.

“I did not choose to become a female Alpha, it is not my fault I was born a girl and being a girl is not my fault in the first place,” she said, annoyed.

Selena gave her a pity sigh. She knows that Ember is not happy with her forced engagement. She can not do anything for her. It was Alpha’s final verdict.

“Ember,” just then they heard a deep horrendous voice. They turned. Alpha Stanford was standing there. He was one of the most powerful Alpha and there was no Alpha born to defeat him. He was ruthless and the Alpha of the Timber Wolf clan. No female Alpha shifter was ever born in this line. The Grimshadow pack, male dominant and known for their pride.

“Father,”

“Alpha,”

Both Ember and Selena bowed to him.

“Alpha Nanthan is coming this evening and I don’t need any drama, maybe he will ask for marriage this month and I need no interruption,” he said, expressionlessly.

He turned and left. Ember was still in a bowed position. She knew she had signed her death parchment.

“Be ready for evening,” said Selena, smiling and left.

She shut the door.

“What will we do, Alexa,” she asked her wolf.

“We will run away tonight,” she said.

“But Alpha Nathan, you know he will find us,” said Ember.

“Don’t worry, I have learned to hide our scent,” said Alexa.

“What? When and how?”  Ember asked, happily.

“I had my way,” said Alexa, smiling.

“This is great, now we can escape,” she said, happily.
