Chapter 5

Natalie, I waited till he left and began to gasp for breath. Wow! I have never thought that he would act like this. I even was preparing myself for his anger and demeaning looks for ghosting him like this. But if it meant anything, this means that he didn’t know my true identity just yet. Alas! He was a good f**k, but I’m not sure if we will keep doing this after he knew who I truly am. But do I need to have another go with him after he gets formally engaged to my mom? I shook my head, trying to wipe away these weird thoughts. This was never the plan. All it meant was to rub it in Naomi’s face and then just disappear from both their lives. I know that this evil witch had meant for me to come here today to show me that she is still young and she can enjoy her life. She can even land a very handsome man even though she already has a twenty years old daughter. But honestly, does he know about me, or did Naomi hide this fact as well? I sighed, then opened my small clutch that was on the ground by my feet and looked at my reflection in the mirror. Thank god that my makeup looked decent, and there were no smudges anywhere. All I have here is just my lipstick and a spliff. I walked back into the big reception and found my father talking with Naomi and a few other men. I bet that they are discussing some business and it was a good chance that they might start a new one as well. I saw Derek on my right talking with another man, so I just crept to where the two men were and tried to listen to them. “Look, your father wants this damn engagement, so go through with it and just be honest with her. Tell her that this marriage is just a facade and you will have side bitches. You are a man with needs. Besides, she already knows that this damn partnership isn’t real, at least marriage wise.” The man said to Derek, who was looking at my father and the woman beside him with a glare. Was he jealous of my father? I mean, my father is very handsome and I can see how women’s necks turn whenever he chuckled. “But hey what happened to you? You look...different. Twenty minutes ago you didn’t look like this........ I can’t even tell what changed, but I can feel it.” The man said again and Derek downed his drink and looked around him, searching for a waiter I presume. I walked away without making any sound. I can’t let him catch me there because now I was debating sneaking out. But I guess that god hates me seriously because it was my father who found me and gave me come here nod. I gave him a smile and walked elegantly to my father and the group of people he was talking to. And when my eyes met Naomi’s, I found her looking at my body with distaste. Fuck you too very much. “This is our daughter, Naomi. She is the apple of my eye and my only heir. She is the person I’m working so hard for.” My father said, and I felt my chest clench painfully, and my eyes stung with tears. My father has changed after what Naomi did to him and just leave us, but I know beneath this hard gaze of his there is immense love toward me. I shook the three men’s hands, then hugged my father’s side when he kissed the top of my head. Naomi gave me a last hateful, full look, then she left us and I just shrugged. Again f**k you too. I almost shuddered when I met Derek’s angry and hungry gaze. He glared at my father’s arm, which was still around my waist. And god forgives me, I felt like torturing him a little so I just leaned further against my dad. Making him give me a broad grin and just hug me harder to him, and I giggled when he gave me a playful wink. I looked back at Derek and found him talking to Naomi calmly, even though the look on his face said otherwise. I looked back forward when my father called my name while he was discussing something with the others. I joined their small business chat, and I have impressed a couple of them if I might add. “Don’t look so surprised because it is me who would be offended. I know that she doesn’t look the part, but Nat is a very smart girl and she helps me a lot with the company. I can count on her any day when I don’t feel like going. She is brilliant, and she goes to a very prestigious school, too. I might not say it a lot, but I’m so proud of her.” And now I couldn’t stop the waterfalls after hearing this compliment from my father. But we all looked behind us when we heard some clanking and found Naomi and Derek were standing in the middle and holding champagne flutes. A waiter put one in my hand as she began to talk softly and thank everyone for coming tonight. “It is an honor to have you all as witnesses here today to celebrate our engagement. And I’m so happy that my daughter and ex husband but currently my best friend David is here along with my daughter Natalie. Thank you. This means a lot to me.” My b***h mother said, and I just kept my eyes trained on Derek, who flinched as if he was just slapped on the face. Ok, why didn’t it make me feel good after this? Is it because she doesn’t know yet? My mom kept talking and chuckling after Derek put a big fat diamond on her finger, then he just disappeared. I looked around me trying to see where did he go but I failed. I thought about searching for him on the balcony, then thought no. I guess it was a big shock for him to know that the woman he was fingering minutes ago was his fiance’s daughter. I sighed, gulped my champagne, then headed to the bathroom. I needed some air but I can’t go to the balcony afraid to bump into my mom’s new fiance. “What the f**k do you think you are doing, Natalie? I have seen you searching for him and I have seen the hunger in your eyes. I have never thought that we share the same taste in men. I don’t know if I should be happy or f*****g mad. But I guess you can see what chose in the end.” Naomi, the woman who I wasn’t allowed to call mother said as she entered the bathroom and closed the door behind her
