Gatlin sat silently on the bed staring at her bloodied knuckles as they slowly began to heel, the red stains remained on her skin, however. "Whatever happens I'm here okay?" Arro attempted to comfort her extending his hand to place over her own. Usually, she would be reluctant to take it but she couldn't deny the warmth of contact her smaller hand tightly gripping onto his own. "Thank you" her voice was softer than usual as she spoke eyes still not bothering to lift their gaze. "For what?" he couldn't help but ask. "For being the only friend I've ever had" he couldn't help but smile at her words. Sure they hadn't known each other very long but their close friendship was quick to form but before he could speak a knock came to the door. "I'll get it" he pulled his hand from hers before getting up and opening the door a frown quick to form seeing his still bloodied cousin standing on the other side "what are you doing here Nyx?" "I came to speak with Gatlin, Arro. Not that it has anything to do with you" Onyx's silver eyes narrowed on his slightly taller cousin. "Linz is my friend--" "Exactly just your friend" he growled out. "Do I hear some jealousy Onyx?" a sudden smirk curled on Arro's lips which such caused a deeper scowl on Onyx's face. "I don't know what you're talking about" he spoke through gritted teeth. "Arro... It's fine. I can handle this" Gatlin suddenly interrupted the bickering pair causing both young men turning to face her. "Are you sure?" Arro wanted to confirm. "I'm sure" Gatlin gave a confident nod. Arro turned to leave stopping directly next to Onyx a frown. "I know you know what I'm talking about, Nyx" Arro whispered beside his ear before barging past. Leaving the two alone Gatlin kept her arms crossed her still enraged gaze fixated on him. "Gatlin--" "How could you... We had an agreement, we had a deal about all of this yet you keep not living up to your end of it, Onyx. You have a girl, a girl you're in love with--" "I know..." "You've chosen her to be your mate, announced it in front of everyone, we've gone over this several times now--" "I know, Gatlin.." "Then what are you doing!" she suddenly shouted her arms flailing in the air "why are you doing this to me? You made your choice and I made mine!" "I know, Gatlin!" he shouted in return "I know we've been over this and I know what I said and did!" "Then why?" she spoke in a huff but it was almost in defeat with her shoulders slumping. "I... I don't know why, Gatlin" his voice was hard but almost broken, large silver eyes confused and hurt just like hers. Onyx stepped closer less confident this time "I... I'm sorry... I'm sorry" he seemed almost embarrassed "for a moment I didn't want you to go and I know it's selfish but I--" Onyx let out a sigh as they stood awkwardly staring at one another unsure where to go from there. "Onyx!" Callum suddenly shouted busting through the door a nervous look on his face. "What?" Onyx growled in return while he and Gatlin remained unmoved. "A few of the warriors who were at training they ah.." Callum glanced between the pair scratching at the back of his neck "I just got word they reported Gatlin to the Alpha." "What?!" Onyx and Gatlin exclaimed at the same time. "I didn't know till now. They took off as soon as Gatlin started they thought it would do them a favour defending the Alpha's youngest son" Callum shook his head with obvious disappointment. "Did you call my father?" Onyx questioned a frown deepened on his brow. "Yes but... You know what he's like. He wouldn't listen he thinks Gatlin is bitter about you saying she needs to stay longer as she's not doing well in training" Callum suddenly narrowed his eyes "which I have questions about later since she's going well." "We will talk about that later" Onyx's eyes shifted awkwardly between Callum and Gatlin "I will call my father--" "He's already on his way" Callum remained nervous which seemed odd for such a large man. "He's on his way here?" Onyx seemed to need to clarify. "Yes apparently with your mother, brother and Eliza" Callum almost physically flinched at his words. "Shit.." Onyx muttered out. "I don't know what Onyx did to provoke you, Gatlin but the Alpha family doesn't look too kindly on people assaulting one of the members" Callum explained. "It wasn't an assault... I did say I was challenging him" Gatlin attempted to remain unphased as she clarified the situation. "Even if you said the words that's not how it looked..." Callum sighed. "So what? What's going to happen? I've never been involved in pack issues before" Gatlin glanced between the young men. Her anger still bubbling and even more that she would most likely have to face the Alpha and attempt to explain why she did what she did. Gatlin didn't even know how to start the last thing she wanted to dive into was that they were mates. "Guess we will see when the Alpha gets here," Callum said before leaving the room. "Come on, we better get out there and get ready for my family to get here--" "And your mate" Gatlin interrupted but he sighed in return. "Lets go."1
