She coughed as the rancid wind blew the odour of the street directly to her. The noise pulled the dead boy’s attention to her sharply. As the monotonous drone buzzed on, she stared at the still silent, immobile boy. Ignoring her completely, he turned and continued his staggered steps along the wall. She blinked, surprised at the total lack of reaction her presence had prompted. Stepping away from the wall, she looked past the corner once more, sweeping her gaze along the street. Beyond the tree line, the only cover was the tangled car wrecks and the tram ripped from its tracks. With soft, steady steps, she moved towards the trees.
