CHAPTER EIGHT

1158 Words
Jorge and I trained for a while until I could finally see the sun slowly peeking its way through the clouds and that was when we stopped to catch our breath. I couldn’t lie, he was a formidable force but somehow I was getting used to him in just a few hours of us training together. I walked over to my bottle and took a full swig out of it, I badly needed all the water I could get at the moment. I turned around to see him staring at me, his hands akimbo. “What?” I asked but he shrugged, not saying anything. For a few seconds, we kept staring at each other. This was the same man that was mean to me a few weeks ago when I resumed, he was the same person now teaching me. “Why are you helping me?” I finally asked him, dropping the water bottle where I had taken it from, “from the onset, you clearly didn’t like me because I am wolfless,” I further added. His forehead creased into a slight frown as he took a step closer to me; “Well,” he finally shrugged, “I am not denying that fact but I didn’t mean it the way you are assuming, Eleanor” “Assuming?” I scoffed. If I didn’t know better, I would have believed the assumption. “I mean this academy does not admit wolf-less but somehow they did you. I was more worried about you being bullied than anything else. Everyone here is vicious and they won’t let you go just because you want to prove yourself Eleanor,” He paused for a while and I allowed his words to sink into my mind. I totally understand what he was trying to say. He was not being sarcastic or anything, I could see the sincerity dripping from his eyes. “Hmmm” I hummed as I picked up my water bottle again. I could see the sincerity in his eyes so I didn’t bother to say anything else. One thing I learnt at the orphanage is not to judge someone based on assumptions. “Do you want to spar with me?” I asked after a while and he nodded without hesitation. We both picked up our sparing gears and in no time, we were onto each other. It was an intense one, Jorge was not holding back, neither was I. The more we sparred, the more I got to know him. His moves, his tactics, his techniques. Now I understood why he remained undefeated. He was good and I mean really good. “Tired already?” He asked as I brought down my sword against him but he was fast enough to grab it mid air, his face breaking into a tiny smile. “I am only looking not to hurt you,” Jorge responded. I let out a tiny sigh but that was not it. I knew what I was planning. Despite his teachings, I was not going to let him win and gloat all over but in that moment, something happened that changed the course of my thoughts forever. I didn’t wait, I lunged at him again but this time, he was fast to push the sword out of my hand and I almost lost my footing but landed in mid embrace. It all happened so fast. Jorge was fast to grab onto my waist, our faces only an inch apart mid In that moment, I pushed him off. As soon as my finger came in contact with his chest, I felt a surge of electricity pass through my body. It was so fast but I could feel it all over my body. “f**k!!” I hissed. My eyes opened wide as I took a few steps away from him, surprise and confusion written all over my face. I looked up at him and opened my mouth to say something but the look on his face also stopped me. He also looked surprised and I was sure he had felt the same thing too. “What— The words hung in my throat when he turned around and hurriedly walked away. I didn’t think too much, I followed him. Whatever that was, I was sure he knew what was going on. The look in his eyes, the frown on his face and the way he hurriedly walked away. I was more convinced that he knew that was happening. But Jorge was fast, I lost him even before the chase started. I tried checking everywhere for him but it was like he vanished into thin air. I was about to check the classrooms when I came across Xena in front of the door. She had a sneer on her face, she always had that on her face and that didn’t mean anything to me. I was already used to her ways. “Who are you looking for?” She asked me but I totally ignored her, there was no need to say anything to her. Rolling my eyes to the back of my head, I turned to leave but her next words halted me. “Stay away from Jorge,” Xena said, I could feel the loath in her voice, “and I mean it with everything inside of me” I turned to her but didn’t say a word. I would not dignify her speech with any kind of response but that didn’t mean I was not going to listen to her. “A wolfless person like you stand no chance with him so stay the heck away from him or I swear— “What will you do?” I finally asked, a coy smirk playing across my lips. Normally, I wouldn’t have said anything to her but I was tired of letting her get away with her condescending attitude, “Did you forget that he is one of my fiance candidates that our father handpicked himself?” Her jaw clenched tighter and anger spread across her face. I wouldn’t result in such tacky behavior but I was done letting her get away with all of this. “It’s not like you can reveal your identity," she mocked, “so I am the only princess and the only one fit for Jorge,” “You think?” “I know so,” she spat, “so you better stay the heck away from him,” I took a step closer to her. I was visibly taller than her and that was enough for me. I get to look down at her from my height. “You should be the one staying away,” I whispered, “now you are sounding desperate,” “What—“ Xena looked appalled, “how dare you. You wait and watch what I do to you,” Hissing lightly, she brushed past me and stormed off in anger.
