ELEANOR’s POV.
I hadn’t gone far when a hand grabbed me and pushed me against the wall again. I didn’t flinch, I already knew who it was. Corey’s bloodshot eyes appeared in front of me and this time it looked like he had made a conscious decision to end me here without thinking about it.
“You—
I didn’t wait, I immediately shoved my fingers up his nose and he immediately let go of my neck, taking a few steps away from me. Before he could recover from that, I used that opportunity to kick him hard in the stomach and Corey staggered even more, falling backwards.
For a few seconds, I remembered when Jorge taught me that. He said I could get out of almost any situation if I did that and it worked—I had him to thank for this.
I didn’t wait for him to recover, I turned and I ran off again.
I didn’t know how far I was from the finish line but I was not letting Corey catch me again. After what happened a few minutes ago, I knew he would kill me the moment he set his eyes on me again, he would put an end to me.
My legs were hurting badly but I kept running, blood was dripping down the wound on my leg but the fear of being caught by Corey put me on edge and I continued to run.
Finally, I burst out of the terrain and from a distance, I could see the finish line. That gave me a little bit of hope and I pushed myself further again. I continued running, pushing and saying a silent prayer.
I looked up and my eyes caught Jorge alert at the finish line. I wasn’t even surprised, he was one of the best around here.
That renewed my determination and I found myself pushing hard until I finally crossed the finish line.
I brought myself to a halt in front of him, my face breaking into a huge smile.
“I did it,” I squealed in excitement, “I was able to outsmart Corey and I did it, Jorge”
The more I spoke, the more the smile on my face grew. I was excited and I couldn’t hide or even if I tried.
But Jorge did not move, he just stood there with a conflicted look on his face.
My forehead creased into a tiny frown but just as I opened my mouth to speak, I noticed the warmness against my body. I immediately looked down and I saw my hands were wrapped around him. In my moment of happiness, I hugged him.
I didn’t wait, I immediately let go of him and took a few steps away from him. What the heck was I thinking hugging him like that?
“Eleanor!!” A familiar voice called behind me. Relish washed through my entire body. I love Kathy so much, she always knew when to come to the rescue.
“Eleanor, you crossed the finish line,” she beamed excitedly and pounced into my embrace for a hug but I let out a little whimper of pain. She immediately let go as her forehead curved. Her eyes scanned my body and anger washed over her when she saw the injury on my body.
“Eleanor,” she called out again. This time the sweet Kathy was gone and she looked like she was about to devour whoever was responsible for what happened to me.
“What happened Eleanor?” She went ahead and asked again, “how did you get so injured? Did you fall into a ditch?”
“No,” I nodded in the negative, “I—
But a chill ran down my spine, the hair at the back of my neck immediately stood on edge. I slowly turned and I saw Corey walking towards us. His eyes were dark and expressionless, he looked like he wanted to kill me and bury me down here. I have never seen the hate I see in his eyes for me at this moment before, this was intense and I could feel it in the pitch of my stomach.
He didn’t look away and somehow my eyes remained glued to him.
Just when I thought he was going to come at me, Corey turned the other way and walked off. My heart skipped a beat as I remembered what happened in the forest and the electric jolt I felt through my body. I felt the same thing with Jorge and now Corey, how I wished I could actually understand what was happening or how to go about it.
ZAKI’s POV,
I stood at the edge of the fields, slowly observing what was going on. I saw the way Eleanor hugged Jorge and how comfortable she looked doing that. I saw her tense exchange of looks with Corey. Corey looked like he wanted to end her and that made a smile creep up on my lips.
I was a werewolf heir just like Corey and Jorge and I have seen my fair share of women try to please the three of us just to get on our good sides but not Eleanor.
She didn’t do much but somehow she has managed to get through to the cold aloof Jorge who wouldn’t even smile at anyone and she managed to get Corey to be in this kind of mood.
One word for her was phenomenal.
My attention shifted towards Corey who was now standing in front of me. His face was still expressionless and I couldn’t help but smile at him.
“What are you smiling at?” He asked as he picked up the towel which was on the bench beside me.
“Eleanor,” I called out her name as I turned my gaze to him, “you didn’t do anything to her yet. You were so sure you would. Or has she become someone special?”
Corey hissed as he rolled his eyes to the back of his head.
“You talk like you do not know me, Zaki,” he said, “people like Eleanor need to be tortured before they get ended. And for now, she is a toy I like to play with. When I am done with her, she will wish she didn’t come here,”
“Hmmm,” I hummed as I nodded. I have known Corey almost all my life and I was well aware of how he treated his toys. For Eleanor to still be alive and kicking, surely there was something he didn’t realize yet.
“Well, do not forget” I began to speak again, “she is not as innocent as she looks, even Xena confirmed that. Do not forget where your loyalty lies, man” I added as I turned my gaze to Eleanor and her friend who were both making their way out of the field.
Corey shrugged, “do not worry about me, Zaki,” he said, “she will regret coming here,”
I didn’t say a word, I just continued feeding my eyes with the happenings on the field. I have always loved drama and this one was sure to be good—I would definitely enjoy it.
I couldn't help but look at Eleanor again.
What was it about this girl that made them so infatuated?
