She smiled at me sweetly. “You should have stayed in the dark, Aurora. You were easier to silence that way.”
I didn't respond. I just stared at her—memorizing her face, the curves of her lips, the dangerous glint in her eyes. There was no more pretending between us, and if I was going to stay here, I was going to make sure I either steered clear of her, or I brought out the real her, because the Cavarallos I knew were evil, but the way they worshipped the ground of whoever it was they were looking for, I was more than ready to bet my life on it that this b***h before me wasn't her.
“Don't worry,” I said softly, my voice like ice. “Next time, I’ll be ready.”
She scoffed and turned, walking to the door. “There won’t be a next time.”
