Chapter 8-What's mine is yours

Stone. Days have passed and even though she gets stronger I am tired as all hell; doctor wasn’t kidding when he said I was going to feed her body but I don’t leave, her hand in mine at all costs, bathroom trips are short and sweet to say the least. Alpha Bates arrived yesterday with some wolf but I haven’t had the chance to ask who or why she is here, perhaps she is his mate. Silver knocks on the door and I fight to open my eyes. “Stone you need to sleep.” I nod. “I do it’s just,” I try to explain and can’t so I shrug my shoulders. He takes a seat across from me. “I get it but you have to be careful; great you are feeding her body but if you give her everything she will wake up mate less.” I say nothing, guilt rearing its ugly head and Silver sighs. “For the last time this is not your fault.” “I didn’t say it was.” He chuckles. “Your face did.” I smirk and he leans back in his chair. “I called Alpha Bates a few days ago.” “I remember, just before Rayne crashed.” He nods. “Want to explain why?” “I haven’t really talked to anyone about it so let’s keep it between the two of us,” he glances at Rayne “three of us.” I smile. “I asked Bates to dig around in the Oaks past, hoping there is something there to use against them and strip them of their titles.” “Them?” I ask. “Father and son.” I nod my understanding but Silver scratches the back of his neck uneasily. “I also asked him to look into Rayne’s family tree.” I sit up straight. “Why exactly? Do you think she is colluding with Oaks?” His eyes go wide. “No of course not, I wanted him to check out her family tree to see if there was something that could explain that freaky power of hers.” I relax and slump back into my chair. “Fair enough. Who’s the other wolf with Bates?” Silver thinks then nods. “Bates asked if he could bring her, seems she is a healer in his pack, good with non-medical types of healings, thought it might benefit Rayne.” I am touched. “Remind me to thank him when I see him.” I say a loud yawn pushing forth and Silver laughs. “Alright that’s my cue, I’ll check up on you later.” He leaves and I lean my head on the side of Rayne’s bed, too lazy to climb into my own bed, my eyelids heavy and I feel myself slip into sleep. I am unsure how long I slept when I feel someone’s fingers running through my hair and my eyes shoot open hoping against everything it is Rayne but she lies still in her bed, an eerry soft blue hue has settled on the room and I look up to see some strange woman smiling at me, her fingers still in my hair and I pull away, her laugh fills every cell of my body. “No worries Stone, she wouldn’t mind.” I raise an eyebrow. “Perhaps not but I do.” Another smile. “Yes you do.” I frown but she ignores me and walks over to Rayne, her icy blue gown billows around her. She leans over and kisses Rayne’s forehead. “Your love for her is stronger than many of the bonds out there.” She says gazing at Rayne lovingly. “Apologies but who are you?” She simply smiles. “You already know that.” I tilt my head but she explains no further, instead she moves a piece of Rayne’s hair from her forehead. “She is so strong.” She whispers. “Yes she is.” She lifts her eyes to me. “I know, I made her that way.” I am confused for a fraction of a second before I understand, and I bow my head. “Moon Goddess.” I whisper. She smiles lovingly and as words slip from inside me without thinking. “Thank you for allowing me to love her.” She laughs gently. “Most wolves would have thanked me for giving them their mate but you two were always special, that’s why I accepted your requests when you were children.” My mouth drops open. “When a love that deep begins to bloom even I cannot refuse it; you two are stronger together and you will need to be for what is to come.” She turns back to Rayne I sigh. “can we not simply be mates, has she not endured enough?” She smiles. “Fear not, her skin will bear your mark soon.” “Then she will live?” I ask She scoffs and looks at me. “You already knew she would, especially after that little show with the doctors when she flatlined; my apologies for scaring you but I needed you to understand how deep this bond is.” I nod before she turns her gaze back to Rayne. “She will need you more than ever but she will deny it, typical of her of course.” I chuckle. “Seems about right.” I reply. She nods. “She is stubborn but she has to learn that having others help her, defend her and love her does not make her weak but stronger.” I nod. “And you will have to work at convincing her of that and more when she wakes Stone, then and only then will your mark set upon her skin, fail to do so and I am sad to say,” But she does not say it, I understand. “She is angry with me.’’ She sighs. “No son, she is hurt and the depth of that hurt is what you have to fill, no one else can do that.” I nod. “Because I ran.” She lifts her eyes to mine. “No Stone, running she understood it is the lack of faith in her she cannot accept.” I frown. “She will explain it to you in her own words, mine are inconsequential.” I study her. “When will she wake up?” She shrugs her shoulders. “When her body is ready, her wolf is still tired but your wolf is helping her.” I smile and she returns the gesture briefly, studying me. “Just be sure you do not give her everything Stone; she would never forgive herself if you gave your life up for hers.” I reply without hesitation. “I would do so gladly.” She smiles as she kisses Rayne’s forehead softly, making her way over to me and laying a soft kiss upon the top of my head. “I have no doubt you would but if the roles were reversed would you be happy to awaken only to know she was gone?” I lift my eyes upward to her, a satisfied look upon her face. “Exactly, take care of yourself too son, you will both need each other for what is to come.” “And what is to come exactly?” I ask She sighs sadly. “Although I see many things, know many things, this path is unclear,” She glances at Rayne. “It rests with her now.” My eyebrows dip in confusion. “Her actions will determine the reactions of others and the course of what will come.” She smiles and turns her back to Rayne and I. “Wait, why is Rayne able to do all these things without being Alpha?” She glances at me over her shoulder, a smile on her lips. “Some secrets are more fun when they are unearthed rather than explained.” “I don’t understand.” She chuckles softly. “I know, sleep Stone.” I blink, the harsh lights hurt my eyes as I glance around the room, and I sigh to myself. “Really do need to get some rest, weird dreams.” I mumble to myself as the door to the room opens and the doctor enters smiling. “Mr. Varcolac, how are you?” I shrug. “Tired but can’t complain.” He nods. “Hmm, yes, I imagine this may be quite a strain on you,” He grabs the clipboard from the foot of her bed once more, glancing at it far longer than usual, flipping pages back and forth. “What?” “Well judging by her last blood work and vitals I am happy to say I am quite optimistic about her recovery.” I smile. “Be proud, you saved her life.” I kiss the back of her hand. “How could I not? She’s my whole world.” The doctor lays a hand on my shoulder, simply smiling as he replaces the clipboard and strolls out of the room. I kiss her hand once more. “Alright dew drop, whenever you’re ready.”
