A light rain began to fall just as Sanchez stopped the car in front of the sheriff’s office and turned off the engine. Trudy’s plan was simple: Sanchez would go in to the office and tell Summers she had escaped from the house. Then she would disarm him and lock him in one of the jail cells. She’d find the keys for Rocky’s truck, which had been parked at the station since the night it was impounded. They would park Miller’s cruiser at the rear of the building, so he wouldn’t see it immediately when he returned. Hopefully, Summers was as dumb as he looked and fell for her ruse. Sanchez got out of the car and quickly disappeared through the front door. After a few minutes when she didn’t reappear, Bruce got out and went to the door. With the flat of one hand, he slowly pushed the door open
