It was a quiet Saturday morning.
Yumi was cleaning the house while her daughter helped fold clothes and her little boy sat on the floor, surrounded by his toys.
For the first time in a long time, everything felt normal.
Then someone knocked on the door.
Her heart immediately began to race.
She wasn’t expecting anyone.
When she opened the door, she froze.
Standing in front of her was the man she had once loved for ten years.
The same man who had promised to spend his life with her.
The same man who had broken her heart.
Neither of them spoke.
Years of memories suddenly filled the silence between them.
“Can we talk?” he finally asked.
Claire crossed her arms.
“What do you want?”
He lowered his head.
“I came to apologize.”
An apology.
The one thing she had waited years to hear.
But hearing those words didn’t bring her the happiness she thought they would.
Instead, she felt anger.
Pain.
Disappointment.
“Do you know how many nights I cried because of you?” she asked.
He remained silent.
“Do you know how many times I blamed myself?”
Tears filled his eyes.
“I’m sorry, Yumi.”
But apologies couldn’t erase the years she had spent rebuilding herself.
Just as she was about to answer, her daughter walked into the living room.
“Mama, who is he?”
The question caught both of them off guard.
He smiled awkwardly.
Yumi gently placed her hand on her daughter’s shoulder.
“He’s an old friend.”
Her daughter nodded and returned to her room.
He looked at Yumi.
“I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness.”
She didn’t answer.
Because deep inside, she was still trying to understand what forgiveness really meant.
Was it forgetting?
Was it giving someone another chance?
Or was it simply choosing to let go of the anger?
After several minutes, he finally stood up.
“I’ll leave now.”
As he walked toward the door, he stopped.
“I just want you to know that I never stopped caring about you.”
Yumi looked away.
Because sometimes, caring isn’t enough.
Love without loyalty means nothing.
After he left, Yumi sat alone in the kitchen.
Her mind was filled with questions.
Then her phone rang.
It was the father of her second child.
Another complicated relationship.
Another unfinished chapter.
She laughed softly.
Life had a strange way of bringing everything back at the same time.
That evening, she sat beside her sleeping children.
Her daughter held one hand.
Her little boy held the other.
And suddenly, she realized something.
She had spent so many years waiting for someone to choose her.
But these two little people had already chosen her every single day.
She kissed their foreheads and whispered, “You will always be my greatest love story.”
For the first time, she wasn’t afraid of being alone.
Because she wasn’t alone.
She had her children.
She had herself.
And maybe that was enough.
But as she turned off the lights and prepared to sleep, another message appeared on her phone.
“I need to tell you something important about your second child’s father.”
Yumi stared at the screen.
Her heart began to pound.
What she was about to discover would change her life forever.
