Motherhood became Yumi’s reason to keep moving forward.
Every day followed the same routine.
Wake up before sunrise. Prepare breakfast. Get the children ready. Go to work. Return home. Clean the house. Put the children to bed.
Then cry.
No one ever saw that part.
To everyone else, she was strong.
But strength can be exhausting when you’re carrying everything alone.
One evening, after another long day at work, Alyssa sat beside her youngest child while folding freshly washed clothes. Her phone suddenly lit up.
A message.
Her heart began to race.
It was from him.
The man she had once trusted with her entire heart.
She stared at the screen for several seconds before opening the message.
“How are the kids?”
That was all.
No apology.
No explanation.
No acknowledgment of the pain he had caused.
Just one simple question.
Alyssa locked her phone and placed it on the table.
How could someone who once promised forever suddenly become a stranger?
She looked around their small home.
School supplies were scattered across the table.
Unpaid bills were stacked beside the television.
A basket of laundry waited to be folded.
Her reality was nothing like the future she had imagined years ago.
That night, she sat on the floor beside her sleeping children.
She gently brushed her daughter’s hair away from her face.
“I promise I’ll always be here for you,” she whispered.
Her daughter smiled in her sleep.
For the first time in months, Yumi realized something.
The love she had been searching for wasn’t missing.
It was lying right beside her.
Her children didn’t care about the mistakes she had made.
They didn’t judge her for becoming a single mother.
They simply loved her.
And maybe that was enough to keep going.
But deep inside, another wound remained unhealed.
Because the second man who had once promised to stay was slowly becoming distant.
And Yumi could already feel it.
Another goodbye was quietly approaching.
