CHAPTER 28I followed Gabrielle into a wide, gradually rising ravine thick with trees and a profusion of wild bushes and vines. In most places it was impossible to get through side by side. Her family chateau couldn’t be seen from this end of the Lemaire property. It was a couple miles away, with the forested hills blocking the view. There was a wide dirt path, long overgrown with weeds and brush, leading into this end of the estate from the road. But cars had used it recently, their wheels crushing the weeds when they went through. That increased the likelihood that my hunch was correct.
