Chapter Seven

It was now Thursday morning, and I woke up around 7 to get ready for work.

Janay was still sleeping so I left her in bed while I got ready for work. I was looking forward to today because of that lil date at the end. Well okay, maybe not a date but you understand.

After I showered, I put a pop tart in the toaster while I put on my undergarments and work clothes.

I did my edges, sprayed myself and went to the kitchen for my breakfast. I ate and drank some apple juice then went to brush my teeth so I could leave.

It was about 9:30 on the dot when I got to work, and I settled in at the register immediately after clocking in.

I was cashing customers all morning and my hands were beginning to tire. Luckily, my lunch break was coming up and after that I was gonna be on the floor helping the customers.

I decided that this time I am NOT gonna eat in the back room in fear of another incident happening, instead, I went to KFC to get a famous bowl combo.

I didnt want much today so that would do just fine.

After receiving my order, I went to take a seat at one of the tables.

“Hi.” I heard a voice say as I was about to take my first bite.

“Devon?” I replied , kinda shocked to see him.

“Yea, hi, what’s up? You haven’t hit me up since we went out the other day.” He said smiling a little.

“Yea,” I chuckled nervously while putting my fork down, “I’ve been busy.”

“Oh, I can understand that. I was kinda hoping we would actually go on a real date this time yk, as friends of course.” He asked while scratching his chin nervously.

Aw, hes so cute.

“I kinda have plans so I dont know when that’s gonna happen.” I replied feeling bad after seeing the sad look on

his face.

"That's fine. Well, I'm gonna go, I just stopped by to say hello." He got up from the seat in front of me and walked off.

Okay then.

Finishing up my lunch, I began walking back to ERIC's around 12:50 and made it just in time to clock back in and started working.

Today was a calm day so not much happened.

At minutes to five, I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket, ducking into one of the dress rooms, I answered.

"Hello?" I whispered.

"Natalie? It's Liam."

"I know, your number is saved in my phone. Whats up?" I replied chuckling a bit while still whispering.

"Right, he gave a little laugh, I was just calling to tell you that- wait, why are you whispering?" he asked mid-sentence.

"Because I'm technically still on the job sir, so I had to duck away to answer. Now can you make this quick before I

Get fired?” I said to him quietly.

“Oh, right, sorry, my bad. I was just telling you that I was outside, I thought you would have finished, but anyways, I’m out here waiting on you when you’re ready.”

“Okay. See you soon.” I hung up just as I heard my boss outside the door.

“Hello? Is there someone there? We are closing up now, so you have to come back tomorrow.” He said.

“It’s Natalie, Mr Johnson. I was just fixing my skirt and I was closer to here than the bathroom.” I lied smoothly while laughing a bit.

“Oh okay. Well, when you get out you can just help the others re-shelfing the stuff and then you can clock out."

I replied with an okay while opening the door and got to re-shelfing the items.

That took about 20 minutes and I clocked out afterwards while grabbing my stuff. I met Liam in the parking lot since that's where he said he was.

“Wah gwaan?” I said to him while getting in his car. (What's up?)

“Hey, sorry about earlier. I didn't realize you were still on the clock; guess I was just excited for us to go out.” He replied while scratching the back of his neck nervously.

“Nah,” I laughed while hitting him on the arm slightly, “it’s okay, I live to work another day.”

“Ouch girl, you hit hard as hell.” He laughed while pulling out of the parking lot and making the 5-minute drive to Starbucks.

We both ordered two cappuccinos, a brownie, and a bagel with cream cheese. We went to sit outside while we ate and talked about anything that came to mind.

Suddenly, I felt little droplets on my face, and I felt the pour before I could react quick enough. We jumped up quickly and ran inside Starbucks to get some shelter.

Ten minutes later the rain was still pouring, and it was almost 8 and I didn't plan on staying there anymore than I had to.

“You wanna make a run for it to the car?” I turned to Liam to ask him.

“Yuh sure? Nuh waah get yuh sick

Enuh b. “ (You sure? I dont wanna get you sick.) He asked.

“Yea, mek wi jus dweet caz mi naah tan yah nuh longer. Mi gov man.” (Yea, lets just do it because Im not staying here any longer. Dont worry, Ill be fine.)

I replied to him while smiling a little.

We made a run for it to the car and thank goodness he had leather seats instead of cloth or we wouldve been f****d.

He started the car and turned on the AC which was a bad idea because the clothes started to feel all clammy on our bodies.

With careful driving, we made it to my place around 15 minutes to 9 and we immediately inside.

I gathered my stuff to take a shower while searching for a t shirt and shorts to give Liam (I tend to buy men clothes a lot) to put on.

I got out of the bathroom 15 minutes later and went to put on my night clothes which consisted of grey tights and a white t shirt with some black ankle socks.

I came out to see liam already changed and sitting on the couch with his mobile phone .

“Hey , you good ?” I asked him as I sat beside him .

“Yea, I’m good. Just wondering if the rain is gonna ease up so I can go home.” He replied while scrunching his eyebrows a bit.

“I mean, it’s still pouring out there. why are you in a rush ?” I asked him concerned . I know he lives right on the other street but its pouring .

“Not really . I guess I could stay until it eases up .” He replied smiling a bit .

I decided we could watch a movie in the meantime , so I went on Netflix on the TV that was in the hall and we settled on Love seat Actually.

In the middle of the movie , I began to get drowsy , and I cuddled up into liam (unintentionally of course ) and fell asleep .

Woke up around 12 to realise that the TV was off, and liam was gone . I took up my phone to see a text ,

Liam- Hey love , the rain stopped a little after you fell asleep, so I left . I made it home okay lol . Good night, sweet dreams.

I smiled and went to my room to get a proper sleep .
