  The office was silent as Francis's words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of his revelation. Linet's heart dropped into her stomach, her breath caught in her throat. She could feel all eyes on her, her colleagues frozen in shock. The tension was palpable, thick enough to cut through with a knife.   Francis didn't seem to care. He was relishing every moment of the attention, his voice cool and calculated as he continued. "How could you, Linet?" he asked, his eyes narrowing with both disdain and mockery. "How could you leave your poor husband in the village and run to the city, chasing after your own selfish desires? After everything I did for you... I even paid your dowry, remember?"
