Chapter 4.
"Oh dear heavens" I didn't know how to feel, the
train was still in motion and somehow my
battery died. How could this have happened?
I tried to get myself together without raising
anyone's suspicion that I was lost, I hadn't
been to this part of town before.
"Hi," I smiled at the young girl sitting three
seats away from me. 'I love NYC' was boldly
written on her sweater, so I figured she was a
local, or maybe a student.
"Hi there" he unplugged her earpiece and
focused her attention on me
"Ermm, please where are we?" I tried to sound
normal, not giving anything away with my
voice. "My stop was actually New York, but..."
and I gave it away
"Okayyy" she giggled "Well we're at Warwick, I
guess you'd just stop with us and take a bus
back to the city"
I could see that she was embarrassed for me
"Don't worry, this time I'll wake you up" she
giggled again
She was having a laugh, she didn't hide the
mockery very well
"Thank you so much" I returned an awkward
smile and moved back to my original spot.
"Help me dear heavens," I said a silent prayer
and waited for the train to stop, this time I had
no business sleeping, my eyes were wide
open.
Aunty Mary Jane's Pov.
"Well, James I'm at the airport, where are your
so-called boys" James was getting on my last
nerve. We had a plan, and he was messing it
up.
"Ma'am where exactly are you" James asked
over the phone
"I'm in the hotel reception, where else am I
supposed to be James, where else?" I made
sure I called James after I landed yesterday
night, but now he was acting like we didn't
have plans.
"Well my boys are en route, please hold on"
James pleaded
"Well, they better hurry up!" I hung up
immediately.
Nora had the guts to seduce my husband,
attack both of us and run away from my home,
after everything I've done for her. The girl is
indeed cursed.
I can't believe that overnight, I left my family
and my Job, paid over five hundred dollars to
get a last-minute ticket, to fly all the way to
New York all because of that stupid wretch.
If not for these papers I won't be here, I planned
to depose the girl anyway. I'll make sure I show
her hell, and nothing will stop me from
bringing her back with me.
My phone suddenly rang and disrupted me
from my thoughts
"What is it, James?"
"My boys are outside your hotel" He answered.
I hung up and made my way outside.
The black truck was very familiar, it was
James' former truck.
"Good morning ma'am" Three able-bodied men
greeted in unison.
"Morning" I answered back, "Well we are going
straight to business, I'm sure James has
shown you the picture of the girl"
"Yes" They answered in unison again
It was very creepy
But one of them spoke up, he seemed like their
head, his physique was the biggest "How
exactly do we know where she'll be, the city is
very big you know"
"She'll be at her aunty's office" I was losing my
patients already
"Wait ma'am, where exactly is her aunty's
office," the tallest man asked
"Sunyun & co." I took off my shades and
gestured for them to let me into the vehicle.
"Well then, let's go!"
We all got in and zoomed off.
At Sunyun & co.
The office building was bigger than I expected
it to be, all the buildings in New York were
relatively bigger than the buildings in
Liverpool.
"Do you want us to go in with you?" one of the
men asked, I didn't see which one exactly
"There'll be no need for that" I put my glasses
back on and made my way into the main
building.
After asking different people questions for over
twenty minutes, and almost getting lost, I
gathered that Julissa's office was on the sixth
floor.
Ding!
The elevator opened to the front desk of a
young lady
"You're not supposed to be up here ma'am" she
quickly said
I was too close to Julissa to turn away, no way!
"Ermm, please young lady, I'm Julissa's sister,"
I said in a hurry trying to fake a smile "Please
just tell her I'm here, please" I'm not sure my
voice was convincing enough
"Oh" She stepped back, she looked a bit
confused at first "Well Mrs George is in an
important meeting right now......"
"Hi Mary Jane" Julissa herself walked in
"Oh" I sighed a breath of relief "I'm so happy to
see you, we really need to talk"
"Go back to work Judith, I know her" Julissa
instructed who I think now is her secretary
"I was actually in a meeting, an important meeting, but I saw you through the glass" she
pointed to the conference room by the right,
and there were still people seated
"Let's go to my office" Julissa took two lefts
and we were at her office
"Please sit" she smiled and sat opposite me
"Julissa I need to get this off my chest before
anything" I took a deep breath, I realized heavy
breathing makes people believe lies
"Nora ran away with a man, an old man, and I
just had to tell you first before going to the
police" I faked a sob and sniffled my nostrils
"I loved Nora, I took care of her like my own,
and I even found a job for her at a
microfinance bank, but she decided to run
away with a man, I'm so sad Julissa"
I yanked a handkerchief from my purse and
pretended to wipe my nose. I continued
sobbing and I made it louder than the first sob,
I really wanted her to buy my story.
The silence that followed my act was
deafening.
Julissa said nothing, she just stared dead into
my eyes.
Maybe she knows, maybe Nora got to her first, I
thought to myself, but then again, I wasn't sure
of anything and my act was my only hope of
tracing Nora.
She still said nothing, I got scared of the
silence but continued sobbing.
"Mary Jane" Finally, she broke the silence
"Yes" I kept the handkerchief close to my eyes
"Let's call the police, let's call them now!".
